Delaney Home Services is run by a father and son team of two. We have 15 years experience taking care of homes and businesses, and we are well-respected and trusted in the local community.

"Jerry was responsive and honest in his analysis and assessment of Installation in a drop ceiling. The new units we reviewed, although nice, require major headaches. Jerry suggested just replacing the fan motor, if we can find one. Nutone no longer supplied the fans, but his suggestion of eBay was excellent. I replaced the fan, and he was not going to charge me since he didn't do any repairs. I paid him his service call fee for is efforts. Price listed on review is cost of new fan/light combo, without install."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Silicone caulk shouldn’t be used in place of grout because each material serves its own purpose. Thanks to its flexibility, silicone caulk is good for sealing around the perimeter of tiled floors, where movement and expansion might occur. However, grout is more durable, making it a better option for the joints in between tiles, which need to withstand constant weight and foot traffic.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

Glass, ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone are all excellent choices for tiling a shower floor. Some glazed finishes can be slippery when wet. Your tiling contractor can provide more information on which tiles will work best for your shower floor.

Porcelain countertops have a fairly long life span, sometimes lasting for decades. Depending on how much wear and tear you put your countertops through, it could last 25 to 50 years. But be warned, porcelain is also prone to cracking, so as long as you take good care of it, you’ll have those countertops looking brand new for years to come.

Penny tile should be sealed to protect the grout from moisture and keep stains from damaging the look of the tile. If penny tile is in a humid or high-traffic area, like a bathroom, kitchen, or entryway, it needs sealant. Any type of tile and grout is best maintained with a sealant reapplied by a pro every one to two years.
