Jerry was responsive and honest in his analysis and assessment of Installation in a drop ceiling. The new units we reviewed, although nice, require major headaches. Jerry suggested just replacing the fan motor, if we can find one. Nutone no longer supplied the fans, but his suggestion of eBay was excellent. I replaced the fan, and he was not going to charge me since he didn't do any repairs. I paid him his service call fee for is efforts. Price listed on review is cost of new fan/light combo, without install.

Jerry came on time and proceeded to make sure that he had everything in place to finish the job in the allotted time frame. He walked me through what he was planning and made sure that I was good with the location of the outlet and the drywall repair that he would need to do based on the depth and material of my finished basement walls. All went as planned and smoothly until he went to place the actual outlet box. There was an extra gap of space when a previous contractor had done finish work and the electrical box was not going to be long enough to properly attach and be flush with the wall. Jerry ran out and got a longer extension box and all was good. He seemed very knowledgeable on electrical code and safety which has been a concern of mine in the past with other contractors. I live in an old home and electrical and plumbing lines have proven to be challenging. I am very pleased with the job he did and the price. He is doing landscaping work for me next.

I was very impressed at several things that happened. First off, one of the things that I wanted done was fixing an outlet in my kitchen. It was pushing into the wall and not attached properly when it was installed. Jerry looked at it for a minute and got his tools and fixed it for me right there. It was spaced and tightened incorrectly when my backsplash tile was done and he corrected it for me. When he measured for the wire needed in my crawlspace, he pulled at the existing wire for one of the older sump pumps. It popped a breaker. He showed me where there was a break in the casing for the wire that looked like it was cut. There was dried solder directly under the wire. I had a copper plumbing line break a few months prior and it had to be soldered by my plumber. Apparently some of the solder dropped onto the wire and melted through it. The interior wires were exposed and touching each other. This caused the breaker to pop. He fixed the wire for me right then and there and placed it properly. He also gave me several alternate ideas for consideration that would save me money and be less time intensive. I felt that he was looking out for my best interests rather than just looking out for his pocket.

He did not charge me anything for fixing my kitchen outlet, nor my crawlspace wire. His estimate for all projects requested was fair and competitive with the other bids I had received. The only downside of hiring him was that he was booked solid for the next 10 days. I went with him anyway and scheduled for the electrical work and the yardwork. We are still working on the patio/deck issues to decide the best way to accomplish what I want.

Estimate so far:

Electrical - running a new line to a dedicated breaker for a gfci outlet in the next room: $175
Landscaping - $700 for 2 people for the day to prepare and install 15-20 large bushes or mini trees of my choosing including pick up and mulch
