"George's work is incredible. He is professional, detailed and very trustworthy. We had hardwood flooring installed in three bedrooms and existing floors sanded and stained to match. Our work was completed ahead of schedule and was of the highest quality. We are absolutely thrilled with how well this project went and would recommend George to anyone looking for hardwood floor installations."

"Brooks Flooring was THE best! Phil was prompt and professional and provided many options for me to consider. In addition, he looked at the existing hardwood in order to make the best match and even inspected under the house to check the moisture content. They arrived on time, kept the areas clean and explained the process as they went along. I had four estimates that I wasn't impressed with the pricing or the people, but then I found Brooks on Angie's List! Brooks' price was comparable to one other, but Phil's knowledge and professionalism is what sold me! Everyone that sees my flooring says it looks original to the house---- and it is absolutely beautiful! I can't believe I waited so long to do it!"

"He was very responsive and informative.  He was able to estimate a price based on the square footage dimentions that my husband measured.  His price fell within the range of the other companies in the area.  We felt very comfortable with them, and plan to call them soon.296

Hardwood Flooring questions, answered by experts

Laminate flooring takes about 24 to 48  hours to settle. Before this, planks are not completely acclimated to your home, and walking on them could cause shifting and permanent damage to the flooring. You should allow floorboards to acclimate for 48 to 72 hours before installing so that they can adjust to your home’s humidity and temperature levels, but they will continue to acclimate and settle after installation. For this reason, avoid placing any furniture in the room for 72 hours after installation.

Your floors will continue to settle for a few months after installation, becoming less bouncy as they rest.

Carpet stretching can be a worthwhile investment to increase the lifespan of your carpet and eliminate unsightly wrinkles, ridges, and ripples. For an older carpet that is in relatively good condition aside from some wrinkling or bubbling, restretching can make it look like new and extend its life by at least a couple of years. You should consider restretching when you notice looseness or other related issues.

However, it's important to note that stretching will not fix issues like stains, wear in the pile, or discoloration. Consider replacing the carpet instead if the repair cost is more than 50% of the price of a new one. Additionally, if your carpet is past its expected lifespan of five to 15 years, or if it has been stretched multiple times already, replacement is likely a better option.

Installing carpet padding is mostly a matter of measuring the room and cutting the carpet pad to size with a utility knife. You can save some money on carpet installation costs by doing it yourself. Before installing the carpet padding, you should install the tack strips around the room’s perimeter and prepare the subfloor by cleaning and making any necessary repairs. Then, unroll the carpet pad and cut sections as needed. Staple the carpet pad to the subfloor along the edges, leaving the tack strips exposed.

Transition strips are often called seam binders as they bridge the gap between two floor types. They are common between carpeting and hardwood or wood and tile. Transition strips prevent trips and falls and make the transition from each room appear seamless. They are also often used to even out height differences between floors.

If the stairs are already covered in carpet, you will need to remove the old carpet and possibly the carpet pad. Any damage to the stairs like cracks, loose boards, or creaky treads may also need to be repaired. You may also want to sand and refinish or paint wood stairs before installing a carpet runner.
