It was an A all across the board. Michael Gibson is the owner and the main one I was in touch with. He's just a true professional, does what he says and says what he does. It just stuck out - a very professional young man.

During a stressful time in our lives, the central air conditioner in our house stopped working. It was as hot as it gets in Charleston, SC and we were in the middle of making a major life change which included moving our family to another state. The people at Gibson's All American knew of our difficult situation (they asked) and I feel took advantage of us. Keep in mind that I am a Federally qualified Airframe and Powerplant Technician that is qualified to and in fact has worked on the HVAC systems of Boeing 747s. I know how things work and would have (and should have) fixed this myself if we weren't already so stressed by other life issues. Instead, I chose to sign up for Angie's List and chose a contractor I was sure could be trusted while I took care of other matters. After having the work done, the amount that was charged to us stayed on my mind for many weeks, and also, the slightly stressed sound in his voice as he let me know that he needed to be payed before he left the house caused me to pause as well. So, this is what I found when looking back at the situation... The parts are available at Home Depot for close to $100 (look up condenser fan motor). The job, especially when done by a professional should take far less than 1hour, in fact, much closer to 1/2 hour. AC manufacturers make this job easy to do: everything is out in plain sight and there are only about 8 screws to remove and very basic electrical connections to make. The hardest part might be removing the fan from the shaft with a puller, but they have done this many times, I am sure. The charge was over $700. I have talked to both the lady on the phone (I assume the wife) and the man by email and have been assured by both the the charges are correct and typical for them. Since we do not live in the area any more, I am convinced that I will not be receiving a refund after being charged about double rate for this simple and common job and feel that the facts should speak for themselves. Do you think HVAC work is worth well over $600 per hour? Or is it only OK when the client is under a lot of stress, totally distracted, and about to leave town?

Mr [Member Name Removed], Thank you for sharing your experience when using our services. It comes with much regret you were not completely satisfied with our billing process. Although I do not agree with most of what you claim to be true and here are my reasons why. 1) You and/or your wife gave the approval of the costs involved to repair your air conditioner. I don't understand how you are able to complain of prices we gave you the opportunity to decline repair after the $79 diagnostic fee was paid. I assessed your systems problem, gave you a breakdown of cost to make repairs to your system to get you cooling on that day JUNE 23 2015, you made the choice to accept the repair before it was made. Here is the complete breakdown of charges. I cannot stress enough this being my argument about your complaint. These charges were not billed until after an explanation was made for each charge, which you agreed to before the repair was made on the following day. 1) Diagnostic fee of $79.00 2) After we explained all charges being billed to get you up and running to cool your home, Labor to complete was billed for 2.5 hours at $75.00 per hour- this included driving from your house to pick up the part and locate it across town, return to our shop to mount the motor, and then return back to your home the following day to install it. Upon my arrival the following day to complete the repair, we met for the first time, you did not mention anything at that point you did not feel the price to come to your home to repair your system was an issue, I then proceeded to do what you had approved the previous day for me to repair, which was install your condenser motor. The charges billed will be explained at the end of my response. Lets not forget you had an additional part needing replaced as well, which was the dual capacitor for the condenser to run. The unit would not work without this part also being replaced. All of this was explained to you and your wife before the repair was made and because you did not decline repairs at that time , you will not receive any refunds for work we completed per your approval. Our policy is to get customer approval before making repairs so the customer knows what they will be billed before we make any repairs. I received an email from you about this on September 1,2015. Your complaint was made 3 months later. Here are the charges you agreed to pay us to repair you HVAC system in detail. $79.00 Diagnostic (had you declined repair this would have been your total cost before approving the following as explained) $350.00 Condenser motor (part Only) $89.00 Dual Capacitor replaced due to power surge $187.50 2.5 hours Labor for leaving to pick up part after located locally, return to shop to mount motor on condenser top, return to your home the next day to finish repairs. The price you were billed and you paid for with no complaints until finding Home Depot had the condenser at cost 3 months later, in my opinion will show our billing policy was correct. To be clear, we do not give special pricing to anyone with circumstances you claim we knew about from the get go, That is not true, nor is it relevant to your complaint. Thank you again. We are not aware of any messages you have left 3 times to schedule your maintenance to be performed for your HVAC system. We have you scheduled for Monday August 17th per your conversation with office staff. We work very hard to make our customers more than happy when using us for service. All reviews left about us on Angies List and our Facebook page would hopefully show that to be true. Being this is not the first occasion you have made negative remarks about Gibson's All American we feel are unfounded, we will refund your money for both maintenance visits that you prepaid on the first visit to your home. I would say to anyone reading this some customers you simply cannot satisfy no matter what you do. This customer would be one of those. Mrs Taylor look for the amount you paid for the Maintenance Agreement to be mailed to your address immediately. You will receive that by mail within the 2-3 days. We feel regretful having to say to a customer- which is NOT something we do very often, Thanks but No Thanks! We apologize for any inconvenience and wish you luck with finding a company that can service your HVAC needs.

My husband stated that they did a good job. I changed my review based on the fact that i was not there but my husband was happy with them.

This provider was excellent. We will use this business again. He was affordable,honest, and was able to come out quickly. In the middle of summer our a/c units were damaged by a storm. He was very understanding of how important it was for us to have a/c when it was so hot outside. He even let us borrow a couple of a/c units until our parts arrived. He responded quickly and the service was great!

Excellent service. After calling around and getting no one that was willing to do this repair for less than $1000, I found Gibson. He came with his mother and performed the repair for almost half the cost of all my other quotes. Fast work and excellent pricing!

This was the only company that was willing to go the mile with TRYING to get to us the same day--and the extra mile by allowing us the ability to have my son act as the authority to approve the job as well as taking a check from him when there was no other way to handle the task without their cooperation. The other thing is we are fairly new to the area and had no knowledge as to who to call.

called company they were not able to give exact time as they were booked up. They stated they would try their best to get to our air conditioning unit. They were the only company of three that made an attempt to work with us. Very friendly, willing to at least try as the day was about 100 degrees with high humidity and not a lot of options--they did come, did estimate, fixed the cooling unit and all very professionally. My son who was 15 was left with a signed check and they were very willing to take check, since we were not able to get home. This saved time and money as there is only one that could drive and he was on the road. GREAT JOB!!!

Looked for company that had been in business 10+ years or more. Company answered on first call, came out same day, fixed the problem and provided information for future maintenance options. Also followed up with customer satisfaction call. Appeared to be a family business. I was very pleased and will definitely hang onto this phone number.

We found Gibson's to be very responsive. They made appointments and kept to the schedule. Gibson's personnel were very courteous, exceptionally knowledgeable and completely professional. Their initial service call was very thorough and responsive. When it was determined that the system had failed, they elicited our desires and did not just try to sell us their solution. They answered all ourr questions thoroughly and clarified any of our misconceptions. Gibson's was exceptional, professional and technically outstanding. They thoroughly cleaned up the area before they left.
Description of Work
Late night on July 4, 2011, my wife noticed the air conditioning stopped circulating and smelled smoke. She pulled the circuit breaker and woke me. I went into the attic and checked the unit but found no signes of scorching and did not smell anything. We switched the unit back on and the air conditioning seemed to work fine. The next morning (5 Jul) we called Gibson's and they arranged an inspection later that day. Around 1 pm, Bradley (technician) arrived and performed a detailed inspection. The only item he found was that the blower motor was hot but he tested it and the test indicated it was drawing current within limits. He detected no smell of smoke. After he loaded his truck and was about to leave, the unit stopped again. My wife caught him before he drove away and he returned to the attic. The blower motor had shutdown for overheating and was too hot to touch with bare skin. Gibson's gave us the option or replacing the motor or replacement. We requested an estimiate for replacement since the unit was 16 years old. Gibsons's had an additional technician over to estimate the installation effort and determine the units that would be compatible with our home and provided an estimate by 5 pm for two different units that met our requests and needs.. We selected a Trane model which would arrive on 7 Jul. Gibson's loaned us two window units to keep us cool until they could install the replacement. They also waived the service call fee since we were buying a new unit. They scheduled an appointment for the afternooon of 7 Jul to remove the old unit and arranged with another customer to swap installation appointments to allow installation of our unit on Friday 8 Jul. The other customer was a routine replacement of a working system and not a system failure

This was the first time they have ever been out and they are coming back tomorrow. They were extremely accommodating. They were the only ones that would come out to service our air conditioner the day it went out. They were very, very accommodating and they have gone above and beyond trying to get us cool. They were here until 7 pm last night trying to get the air conditioner working and then they offered to bring us window units over. They were really, really good. I called 4 or 5 people and they were the only ones that would come out. We would absolutely use them again.

We were very pleased with the service. This is a family-owned company with high standards and ethics. They used drop cloths to protect our house and cleaned up after the installation. They were very pleasant to work with.
Description of Work
We needed a new heat pump and upgraded to a 15 SEER. Gibson's gave the best bid and advised on the best placement of the unit and made an extra trip to help us determine this since the new unit was too tall to go where the old one had been. Everything was done in a timely fashion and phone calls were answered promptly.
