Your gate should be 3/4 to an inch smaller than the opening. The opening size that you need for your gate can vary depending on your hinge type. You may also need to add reinforcing braces if the gap between your gate and the fence is not uniform from top to bottom.

Is your wrought iron gate really rusty or in need of major repair work? Replacing it with a gate with built-in privacy screening may be easier and, in some cases, more economical. Professional fence or gate repair costs average $100 to $400, and you may be able to get a new gate for the same price.

When choosing a driveway gate, consider the fence material, whether you want an automatic gate or a manual one, and property limitations like the slope of your driveway.
