"I called Mr. Electric to tackle a list of varied electrical jobs at our home- installing ceiling fans, changing out light fixtures, and adding dimmer switches to name a few. They went above and beyond on each task with great attention to detail. Very easy to communicate with. I highly recommend Mr. Electric!"

"Josh helped me troubleshoot and repair various electrical circuits in my home and removed the debris from my garbage disposal, which was causing it to seize and trip the internal circuit breaker. He is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the home and his customer service skills are superb. All in all he was a joy to be around and helped me with all of my issues. I highly recommend him for service if you are in need of a genuine “handy man”"

Customers say: True professional

"Kevin was absolutely amazing. Professional, but down to earth, friendly, polite, and most importantly super knowledgeable in his field. He helped get me out of a pinch - I had to move my washer/dryer and refrigerator from a house I sold to my new house. Problem was, no mover would take responsibility for prepping the appliances. Particularly my fridge that needed the doors removed to get out of the house. Kevin took a stressful, seemingly helpless situation (to me) and made it smooth as could be. He then came to my new place and got all my appliances setup in their new location. I cannot appreciate his help more or recommend his services enough."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The most common gauge for indoor outlets around your home is 12- and 14-gauge wires. But if you’re working with larger appliances like ovens, washing machines, or dryers (all of which require more amplitude), you might find 10-, eight-, or six-gauge wires to help support those hefty appliances.

The American Wire Gauge system calculates wire size diameters using the complicated formula D(AWG)=.005·92((36-AWG)/39) inch. A simpler rule of thumb is that every six-gauge decrease doubles the wire diameter, and every three-gauge decrease doubles the wire’s cross-sectional area. On the other hand, wavenumbers are typically measured in reciprocal meters (1/m or m−1) or reciprocal centimeters (1/cm or cm−1).

The size of the microwave you choose may change this answer, but for standard over-the-range microwaves, 120 volts and a three-prong grounded outlet is needed for your device.

Yes, splicing wires can cause a fire if the splicing is done incorrectly. This is why splicing wires is a task best handled by electricians. One of the most common mistakes made when splicing wires is not using a wire connector. Without a wire connector, electricity flows unsheathed and can result in a home electrical fire.

No, not all thermostats require a C-wire. Older manual and programmable thermostats typically do not need one. While many smart thermostats do require a C-wire to function correctly, some models can operate without one, often at the expense of certain features. A C-wire provides a constant source of power, which enables the thermostat to stay connected to Wi-Fi and keep its display screen lit on-demand. If you are upgrading from an older thermostat to a smart model that requires a C-wire, you may need to install one first for it to work as intended.
