Small jobs welcome

"The Shower Door Guy - (Robert) did an exceptional job. We needed 8 double pane insulated windows and 1 back patio double pane insulated door replaced/replaced because of the seals going bad and fogging up/discolored. Robert responded immediately to our request for a quote. He came over within a couple days, was efficient with measurements and had us a quote withing a few days. We asked for details about the ratings and details of the glass and warranty information. He had that for us within a few days. His prices were extremely reasonable to what we were expecting. After agreeing to the purchase Robert said the the glass would be there in about 2-3 weeks. Robert called within 2 weeks and he was there the next day for the install. He was exceptionally professional, quick and very conscientious of maintaining the work area clean and spotless when he finished. The windows and door looked awesome. We are extremely happy we found Robert the Shower Door Guy to replace these bad windows. We feel confident we found someone we can trust to do an outstanding quality job (was important to us) at a great price in the future as our house ages and other glass windows go bad."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Most windows last for 15 to 30 years, depending on the frame material and the glass quality, but most will require repairs during that time. Windows gradually lose efficiency, so it’s usually best to have a window repair technician inspect and service your windows every five to 10 years. You should also repair your windows if you experience the following:

  • Leaks

  • Drafts

  • Difficulty opening or closing

  • Sudden increases in heating and cooling bills

  • Outdoor noise becomes more audible

  • Signs of physical damage

Yes, you can replace the screen without removing the door in most cases depending on the frame holding the screen. Doors with removable spline and screen frames make it a snap to replace the mesh while the door remains in place. The best part is that it’s a simple DIY project requiring a few tools in addition to the screen material.

A screened-in porch requires maintenance to keep the screens clean and in good shape, and you may have to do some screen repair or replacement from time to time. A screen porch isn’t an all-season porch, so the weather can get in, including wind and rain.

Egress windows require regular maintenance to ensure they function correctly. This includes cleaning the glass, inspecting the frame and well for debris, and making sure the cover or well drains properly. It is also important to check that the window sills and wells are watertight and to inspect and repair any damage to the window frame or seals to prevent leaks and maintain functionality.

If you’re not keen on using a traditional doggie door, there are some alternatives. One popular option is a solid, insulated door that you can lock when you’re out of the home for added security. You can also opt for a doggie screen, which you can lift and lower to allow your pooch access to the outdoors. These are a bit more convenient to use than a regular exterior door, although security could be an issue. You can also install a screen door with a small opening for your pup to prevent bugs from coming inside as your dog exits.
