"On a whim I decided to check our radon levels in our basement. I guess I assumed this would have been done by the previous homeowner. Apparently one should never assume. My test game back at 5.9 pCi/L. The acceptable level is 4. And I wasn't going to chance my family's health. So I did my research on radon mitigation and sent a quote request through Angi's platform. I received a phone call the owner, John Spokis within 30 minutes on the Friday before New Year's. He explained the entire process and provided me transparent pricing over the phone and in writing via email same day. He was able to schedule us that Monday after New Year's. The installer Derek called me an hour before arrival to let me know he was on his way. He arrived on time, explained the work that was to be performed, reviewed the location with me and made sure I approved of everything before he started. The installation itself took about two hours. This included patching some cracks we had in our concrete at no additional charge. Frankly, I wasn't terribly excited about having a big white fan unit and pipe installed along my house. But I also knew that this was the optimal solution for our needs. And Derek took the time to make it look as neat and clean as possible. I really couldn't have asked for an easier or more pleasant installation at a very fair price. Oh and they guarantee after install that your radon will be 2pCi/L or below. They even give you a kit to test and make sure it has been lowered. There is a lifetime warranty on parts and labor that is transferable if you sell your home. And the fan has a 5 year warranty. So, if you have unsafe radon levels in your home. Don't procrastinate like I did. Just call Radon Systems and get it done in two hours. You'll be glad you did. I am."

"It went fantastic. Scheduling wise the gentlemen at Rhino Radon were quick to respond to our inquiry via there website were I filled out a online questionnaire. Once speaking to Henry about the specifics of my home via phone and letting him no my situation. They were prompt in scheduling a date for installation to assure my radon problem didn't delay my ability to sell the home. From the time I filled out there questionnaire on there website till the system was installed and fully operational, all took place In one weeks time. I no from experience that these days the attentiveness and service Rhino Radon provided me can be difficult to find. Having recently just finished the process of building my own home in Malden and dealing with a wide range of company's and workers. It's the little things that stand out like personal treatment, responding quick to inquiries or concerns and of course taking the time to do things properly the first time around while still treating the home with respect. Rhino Radon came recommended to me via a friend and I couldn't thank them enough for steering me in the right direction for my radon mitigation needs. I would like to do the same to anyone currently searching for a radon company. If you want the job done right and a pleasant experience, look no further for your radon needs then Rhino Radon Services.

"We went outside and looked at the house and he mentioned how the trim was not painted properly to show so much peeling, but that the good news was that it was not lead paint. I received a quote 2 days later of $400 to install the doors and the light, and $1100 to paint all the trim, clean out gutters, and repair the rotted wood. Home Depot was running a sale with $100 door installs, but when added together, I thought Roland's quote was reasonable. He was very knowledgeable about the condition of my home and pointed out some things that the home inspector should have noticed. (that's a whole other story) He came out about a week to ten days later to do the doors and light. When I came home from work, you would never have known he had been there......Except for the new light and doors. Not one scrap of cardboard from the doors, nothing left on floor ...amazing! It took about a day and a half. The doors and light look good. Roland also went ahead and fixed the bad down spout for me at this time because the dripping water was making the wood rot on the house. Only after he had finished the job did he take his $400 payment. We had to wait for the weather to change ( too muggy) to get started on the painting. Roland came out about 3 weeks later to start painting the trim on the house and finish cleaning the gutters. He asked for $200 up front for supplies and finished in 3 days. he works non stop. I was home when he completed the job and paid him. I didn't look at the work until after he had left. I was disappointed with the job. He hadn't taken off any of the gutters to paint the wooden trim located behind them which ran down many of the corners of the house. I naively thought he would be cleaning the wood, scraping, and sanding also. He only painted over the peeling paint. I called him and left a message and he called me back within a few minutes. He did explain that with the new lead paint laws on old homes we would have had to go through all kinds of paperwork and testing if any scraping was to be done and he didn't think I wanted to go that route. Well, I was never given the option. My understanding is you have to be certified. (There's some great info on this site about all the lead paint laws etc.) Roland apologized and agreed to come back out the next day.( He also said that the paint job should last about 4 years and if it started peeling again he would come back and fix it.) He did come back and he left a note saying that he had pulled off "all " the gutters and painted the trim that ran down the house, and also touched up some spots that he missed. He was very apologetic. He also called me and left a message with more apologies. I went outside to inspect again and it looks like he did paint behind the gutters. I didn't get out my binoculars or climb up on the roof to check those gutters, but I have to say that there are still a lot of spots along the roof line in back that look like they could have used a second coat or were just painted over dirt and it's bleeding through. This experience has taught me to probably get something in writing to avoid any misunderstandings... to go over the specifics. I assumed that painting the trim meant prep work.... cleaning ,scraping, sanding....and of course that would have cost more. I was very pleased with Roland's professionalism and would hire him again for other jobs around my home. (Probably not for painting though. Sorry Roland!) Miss Jan"

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

If high radon levels are detected, steps include sealing entry points, installing a mitigation system, and retesting the air regularly to ensure reduced levels.

Radon detection is crucial as prolonged exposure to radon gas, a leading cause of lung cancer, poses significant health risks in residential environments.

Testing every 2-5 years or upon adjusting occupancy or structural changes maintains safe environments.

The lifespan of a radon mitigation system depends on the type of system and its maintenance. With proper care, a system can last for many decades. Passive systems tend to last longer as they have fewer components that require replacement. Active systems, which have more moving parts like fans, generally have a shorter lifespan. For instance, water filtration devices and active pressurization systems require more frequent maintenance. While the system as a whole is durable, the radon fan in an active system typically has a lifespan of 5 to 10 years and will need to be replaced. As long as the fan is working, the mitigation system should function correctly.

Ideally, no one will live in a house with elevated radon levels, as prolonged exposure increases the risk of serious health issues like lung cancer. However, homes with radon can be made safe through mitigation systems, such as active soil depressurization. Testing for radon regularly and addressing high levels helps ensure a safe living environment.
