"Bill was great. Very polite and knowledgeable. The project consisted of an electrical line that needed to be installed from the electrical panel to the above ground pool. The job was completed quickly and accurately. Would hire Bill again."

"Scott arrived promptly on time  - to the minute - to meet and go over the job.  He took the time to discuss and understand out plans and accurately evaluate the work involved. We bought this house from my wife's family when her father passed away. Built in 1965, it had 100A service, which was really good for the time.  But it was fuses, not circuit breakers.  I wanted that upgraded before I ran out of fuses in the dusty box i found down cellar.  The house is out in the country, with a well and sump pump to worry about when the power goes out.  So as part of the service upgrade, I had planned to buy a consumer grade/brand 14KW standby generator which would allow me to power a pre-defined selection of critical circuits in the event of a power failure.
Scott listed to all these plans, and for roughly the same cost, he proposed installing a Milbank 20KW generator with a "smart" transfer switch.  With this solution, I wouldn't have to choose what would be powered from the generator - the whole house is served. The smarts in the panel can be used to prioritize high current loads.  For instance, if the power goes out with a roast in the oven and the AC on, the transfer switch will know not to power up the AC unit until the oven finishes drawing power.  VERY slick.. Scott completely estimated the job and provided us with a competitive, detailed quote before he left. It was spot-on with what I'd expected - a little less than some quotes, a little more than others. But the details swayed me. Rather than just pulling numbers out of the air, Scott accounted for wiring, boxes, etc., so I knew what I was paying for.  I accepted his quote and Scott scheduled the initial work for the following week.
(By the way, my wife thought I was crazy for wanting an automatic generator but the very afternoon that Scott was there to give us a quote, the power went out in a thunderstorm while dinner was in the microwave.  Stayed off for 6 hours...score one for me, LOL!)
His crew arrived promptly at 8:00AM each day.  It took them about a day and a half to do the service upgrade and rewire the garage.  At this time, they installed the transfer switch, as it sits between the meter (National Grid) and the new 200A house breaker panel.  They ran all of the feed and control cables for the generator as well.
The generator was backordered, and took about a week or so for it to arrive.  In the meanwhile, we'd had the propane installed and the generator location pre-plumbed.   Lucy (who always pleasantly answers the phone when I've called S&S) called the day before to let us know it was in.  Again, promptly at 8:00 the guys arrived and built the mounting pad for the generator.  They finished the wiring and we had the electrical inspection done.  Next day, propane guys came back and finished their connection and that building inspector signed-off.
S & S came back to finalize the installation and show us how it worked.  Uh oh, problems.  Generator's running fine, but the transfer switch won't power up the house!  S&S quickly trouble-shooted the problem, a bad solder joint on the "brain".  A quick call to the manufacturer and we were told the part would be shipped to arrive Monday (it's now Thursday afternoon).  That would be great service as it was, but because my wife is a school teacher and summer vacation ended on that Friday, we were going to have trouble scheduling S & S.  They went out of their way to accommodate and planned to make an after-hours stop Monday night with the replacement part.
We were amazed when Lucy called at 8:00AM Friday morning saying they got an expedited delivery of the part and the guys could come over anytime Friday after all!  10 minutes to pop in the good control board, and we were up and running.  Couldn't be happier with the work, price, and service, and recommend S & S to anyone who asks.

"Had a Tornado hit my house and ripped out my mains power. Figured I'd upgrade the panel while I was at it and have a generator outlet installed for when I lose power again. Nick was VERY professional - gave me a quote, showed up on time, answered all of my questions, and the price was exactly where I expected it to be. Job was very well done. When the power went back on, my fridge didn't have power. He helped me pull the fridge out to find a GFI outlet, and he helped me reset it. Was really just a huge help! The guy is clearly a hard worker who really knows what he's doing. What I love is that I didn't talk to a sales guy who then sent a couple of kids to do the job. I got a quote, and the guy I spoke to did the work. That's awesome. I can't recommend this guy highly enough! Will reach out for any and all electrical work in the future."

"I could not have made a better choice of a company to purchase and install my standby generator from . From the day I called for a quote for a standby generator to the time it took to complete the installation (about 3 weeks) everything was done in a courteous and professional manner. The work was faultless and the cost was less then I had anticipated."

Doorbell Installation questions, answered by experts

The primary downside of radiant barriers is their limited effectiveness in cold climates. They are designed to reflect radiant heat, making them less beneficial in cooler conditions where heat retention is more important.

Radiant barriers require proper installation to maximize effectiveness. Incorrect placement can lead to minimal benefits. They also do not provide insulation, meaning they should be used in conjunction with traditional insulation for optimal energy efficiency.

The life span of insulation is between 20 and 100 years. At that time, existing insulation can fall victim to gravity, resulting in compression, which reduces its insulating protection or R-value. If you can't simply add more insulation over the existing material, removing the old to increase the effectiveness of the new can reduce your energy bills and make the project worth the time and money investment.

Installing sheets of plywood over attic insulation is a popular choice, especially in storage spaces. That said, insulation works by trapping hot air—so it needs extra space to expand and be effective, or you might reduce the energy efficiency of your home.

It’s important that you never compress the insulation by installing flooring directly on top of it. In many houses, you’ll need to install a subfloor before putting plywood over insulation in your attic.

Yes, you can install insulation behind drywall yourself, but only if your walls are not finished. If your studs are exposed, installing fiberglass insulation in roll or batt form is very straightforward and just requires a few tools and some safety equipment. If your walls are already finished and you’re looking to add insulation, it’s better to hire a professional, as you’ll likely need blown-in insulation, which can be dangerous to work with and a challenge to get into the proper areas in your wall voids.

Rigid foam board insulation is one of the safest insulation materials for basement walls. The panels offer a moisture barrier to prevent mold and mildew build-up. At the same time, this material is also fire-resistant, so you don’t have to worry as much about a fire breaking out as you would with spray foam insulation.
