"Fused Electric recently performed a service upgrade to my home, installed a portable generator hookup, rewired my garage and basement, and other miscellaneous tasks. All work was properly and simply explained and the techs were first-rate and professional. The did a very clean job trenching a new conduit from house to garage. Cost of permits and equipment was dead on, no surprises and I paid exactly the quoted estimate. Prices are competitive for this area and quote was less expensive than most. Techs cleaned up properly and respected my property. Will definitely use again if need arises."

Small jobs welcome

"I posted my issue on Angie and Mike called me 5 mins later and said he could make it out in the afternoon the very same day. He texted me when he was on his way and troubleshot the issue and repaired it within an hours time. Mike was professional, prompt, communicative and affordable. I saved his number so I can reach out to him directly next time I have an electrical issue."

"Absolutely stunning work by VoltValley Electric LLC! We hired them to install a multi-pendant spiral chandelier in our high-ceiling entryway, and the result is flawless. The team was professional, extremely detailed, and clearly experienced with complex, delicate installations. The lighting is perfectly leveled and looks incredible. Highly recommended!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, electric-start snow blowers need to be plugged in to start, but you can unplug them and go once they’re up and running. Simply plug the snow blower into an outdoor outlet and press the start button. Once it starts, you can unplug it and use it freely. The idea for these types of snow blowers is to simplify the starting process from the typical pull-string starts.

Wiring a light switch wrong can cause a fire if the incorrect wiring causes arcing, meaning the current jumps uncontrolled from one conductor to another. Loose wires or worn wires that are not repaired or replaced can cause arcing. If you’re not 100% sure you can do the job safely, don’t attempt to wire a light switch on your own.

In many cases, you can sell your house if it has aluminum wiring, but you are likely required to disclose that fact during the sale. In some cases, your city or area may have banned the sale of homes with aluminum wiring, so you’ll need to update the wiring or arrange for its replacement as part of the sale. In some cases, it will benefit your home sale to replace the wiring system before putting it on the market.

Yes, if something sparks when you plug it in or turn it on, it's important to unplug it immediately. A spark from an electrical appliance or device could indicate a short circuit, damaged wiring, or other electrical problems that could cause electrical fires or electrical shock. By unplugging the appliance, you can reduce the risk of electrical hazards and prevent damage to the device itself. It's important to avoid using the appliance until it has been inspected and repaired by a licensed professional to ensure that it’s safe to use.

Overall, heating your home with an oil furnace tends to be less expensive than heating your home with an electric heating system. Oil heating systems stay warm for longer periods of time without drawing a constant electrical current to maintain a temperature. Plus, heating oil systems typically have a longer lifespan and lower price tag than their electrical counterparts, resulting in short- and long-term savings.
