"Needed large number of overgrown shrubs (basically trees) removed from our backyard, with limited space to navigate. Brian assessed the project, gave us a very reasonable estimate for the job, and when his crew came on site, we were truly amazed at the speed, expertise and thoroughness they demonstrated in completing the job in record time, including removing all of the debris, grinding the stumps for over 20 shrubs and a small cherry tree, cutting up the trunk of the tree for us to store for firewood, and even removing two smaller shrubs and trimming a few branches from a Japanese maple from the front of our house for no additional charge. Neighbors were so impressed one neighbor behind us hired him to remove a tree overhanging our property and another in the neighborhood asked for his contact info to hire him based on his work at our property. Your neighbor is not in a good position to know if your trees are truly dead or pose any kind of danger. But if a tree is visibly dead and near the property line, you should remove it to be safe. If a dead tree falls on a neighbor’s property, they may have grounds to sue for negligence. If any branches on trees have died, it’s a good idea to cut them back for similar reasons.

You can use herbicides to prevent roots from growing without killing the tree itself, however they must be used with caution. Systemic herbicides are absorbed by the root and can kill off problematic roots. However, herbicides can sometimes negatively impact nearby plants, so the solution is best used sparingly.

Sometimes, knowing when you need tree-trimming services is straightforward, and other times, you have to do some investigating. Some tell-tale signs that you should have your tree trimmed include:

  • A poorly-formed tree with unruly branches, which makes the tree appear odd-shaped. 

  • A tree with tall or large branches that interfere with power lines or your home’s exterior.

  • A tree that provides too much shade in the yard due to branch overgrowth.

In extreme cases, cutting a tree’s roots can cause it to eventually fall if the roots that were trimmed affect the tree’s structure and stability. If you make severe cuts to roots that are more than 2 inches in diameter, you run the risk of affecting the tree’s water flow as well as its ability to withstand severe winds or storms that could cause it to fall.
