"Project was to design and install a closet system for a large reach in closet. Estimator arrived on time, helped to design the closet and provided all the needed information. Installer was excellent and the closet looks beautiful. We are very pleased with all the services. David"

"We love our cabinets! They look fantastic while remaining affordable. The friendly staff at AWD helped us from start to finish. They are very knowledgeable and gave us advice and tips when needed. They were receptive and patient with our ever-changing needs. Once we finalized our purchase, we received our cabinets within two weeks! The cabinets are very sturdy and the color is beautiful. The hinges and hardware are high quality. We are extremely pleased with AWD and would recommend them to any friends or family looking for good cabinets at a fair price."

"I am soooo pleased. Marion was pleasant to deal with, very flexible, and she did a fantastic job. We are getting my mothers condo ready to put on the market, and the place looks brand new, thanks to the deep cleaning! She and her coworker cleaned out cabinets, pantries, closets, bathrooms, washed the floors. They pulled out the refrigerator and cleaned behind it. They cleaned above the cabinets where no one looks, dusted ceiling fans, did the Windows. The place is sparkling, and it was very dirty to begin with. I give Marion my highest recommendation!. I had contracted for 8 hours for $350, but I was so pleased, I asked her to do another hour. Well worth it!

"The movers were friendly and did a very professional job. They moved large pieces of furniture out of a narrow space without any damage to my home or the furniture. They then proceeded to to move and help us set up the furniture in the apartment. They did an excellent job and went out their way to help us."

Closets questions, answered by experts

A standard walk-in closet has dimensions of 7 feet by 10 feet at a minimum and an average of 100 square feet. Remember that the dimensions of the closet aren’t necessarily the usable space. This means that a 100-square-foot walk-in closet with shelves on each wall and an island may only have a walkable area of 50 square feet or less. Make sure you consider the effect of additions when you plan the room—mockups are a great idea.

When you are securing your DIY home office built-ins to the wall, you should start by locating the wall studs. You'll then want to use long screws to attach the cabinets, shelves, and bookcases directly to the wall studs. Your built-ins will be far too heavy to attach to the drywall alone by using anchors.

The vertical space between closet shelves depends on what you're storing. For clothing like shirts and sweaters, 10 to 12 inches is enough. Towels and linens need 12 to 15 inches, while tall storage bins may require 18 inches or more. Overcrowding your shelves can reduce accessibility and increase clutter, so be sure to leave breathing room for your items.

You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.

Tiny house living requires creative solutions to the one biggest issue: space. Many people in tiny houses find life most manageable if they practice minimalism. Eliminating excess items and clutter makes the living space feel bigger, which can be a significant mood booster. It can also be challenging to get utilities arranged for a tiny house, and building and zoning codes can and often do present unique challenges to overcome.
