"I hired Ted for sealing the driveway and ended up adding three more projects to the list. He was very responsive in completing all the work and even called when he was running a little late due to traffic one day. Ted suggested a couple of options on each job, provided fair prices, and cleaned up the job site at the end of each day. I'll hire him again and highly recommend others do as well."

"I had a front and back porch project underway, when my guy cancelled and recommended Jeremiah to take over. Not only did he price it better, but he finished in under a week what I thought would take months. True, hard working company that will give you the best service, whenever. Great crew!"

"We are extremely pleased with Keystone Building Services' (KBS) work on our home. Projects were fairly priced; I got other estimates. My roof didn't need replacement, yet rainwater was leaking in my LR. Justin was able to troubleshoot & seal several points on the chimney allowing leaking - stopping the problem. After another Angie's List contractor told me my next project couldn't be done because of joist spacing; KBS came to the rescue. My HVAC unit access was in the ceiling of my BR closet. KBS cleverly saw a way to get access constructed in the adjacent hallway ceiling. The framing blends in perfectly with the other molding. KBS does an excellent job of cleaning up other contractors' messes. After another contractor overcharged me for an incomplete basement drywall demo, mold remediation and poorly done French drain rehab, KBS: located & remediated mold in in another section and improved the water drainage. We're already planning future projects for KBS."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.

A post-drywall inspection could uncover many problems that weren’t present during the pre-drywall inspection, including insufficient insulation, missing weather stripping, improperly installed plumbing and lighting fixtures, flooring damage, drywall damage, plumbing leaks, aesthetic issues, and more. Structural problems, which are often expensive to fix and are common reasons to walk away after a home inspection, are easier to see before the drywall goes up, but a post-drywall inspection may highlight minor issues with house settling and foundation problems.

It is possible to apply plaster on the interior or exterior of your home, but we don’t recommend it. Plaster is easy to apply in theory, but in reality, it can be a challenging material to work with, and it’s difficult to get the finished product to look clean, even, and smooth. Many DIYers end up calling in a professional afterward to touch up the area or even redo it entirely because of mistakes they made in the process. Hiring a plaster pro will cost more, but it’s usually the best option to achieve high-quality results.

Brick and stucco are a lot more different. You must use picture hanging clips designed for brick walls, or use a plaster rail system with adjustable hooks. Any other type of hanging hardware will cause damage to the bricks behind. You won’t be able to really use nails, either, because they’re not strong enough to go into the bricks.

While every home has its own unique needs, ceiling drywall installation typically follows a staggered or stepped pattern to enhance structural integrity and reduce the visibility of seams. Starting from one corner, sheets are placed perpendicular to the ceiling joists, with the ends of adjacent sheets meeting along the center of the joist. The next row begins with a half sheet, ensuring joints don't align vertically. This alternating pattern, combined with proper taping and mudding, creates a seamless appearance and strengthens the ceiling structure, minimizing the risk of cracks over time.
