Small jobs welcome

"There is a staffing issue (not enough). Steve did very good work and was conscientious. The work took 8 hrs to complete (4 hrs one day and 4 hrs 3 weeks later). If I would have known the job was going to take multiple days to complete, I would have painted the boards myself and saved myself 2 hrs of their labor. I would have done the job myself but I have vertigo and can't climb high on a ladder. It was a straight forward job and not difficult but I am pleased with the outcome."

"Jacob painted two inside rooms for us .He also stained the deck and removed an awning. He filled holes and painted where the awning was attached. We have a couple more projects for him. "The best experience I've ever had with a contractor. The owner, Isaias Caceres, provided expert advice on how to complete our project. His workers were highly skilled and courteous, cleaning the worksite at the end of each day. Our finished basement has never looked better than it does now, as a result of this work. This is a company that I'll hire again in a heartbeat."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

As with patios, there are many types of deck choices to choose from to add personalization to your home. Some common deck options include:

  • Attached decks are anchored to the home and include simple ground-level options or multi-level structures with stairways and separate landings.

  • Detached island decks are not attached to the home; they’re a freestanding structure in the yard.

  • Wraparound decks connect the back of the house with at least one other side and often are built with railings for safety.

  • Multi-level decks connect your deck through varying levels of elevation, featuring landings that are attached to stairs.

While you can use various materials like sand or even just soil, gravel is widely considered the best option to put under a deck. It provides excellent drainage and is resistant to water, fire, and pests. Gravel also helps anchor the soil to prevent erosion during heavy rain and acts as a built-in weed blocker, reducing regular upkeep. Furthermore, it is simple to spread, available in various textures and tones, and adds a polished look that complements any deck design.

It is recommended to clean your deck once or twice a year to prevent the accumulation of dirt, debris, mold, and mildew. The ideal times for cleaning are in the spring and fall. A spring cleaning removes grime that has built up over the winter, preparing your deck for summer use. A fall cleaning washes away messes from summer activities, preventing them from setting into the wood over the winter. The exact frequency can depend on factors such as how often the deck is used, its exposure to pollen, and whether salt was used on it during the winter. Regular cleaning helps protect the wood and its finish from damage.

Yes, and in some cases, frozen ground may improve the digging process for footings due to sturdier conditions. It’s easier than working in muddy conditions, which are more common in the spring. Contractors may use machinery that makes this step a breeze, so harder ground shouldn’t affect the building process.

Typically, most residential wooden decks are designed to support approximately 40 pounds per square foot, including the deck’s weight and any items placed on it. While this is fine for typical use, it is usually not enough to hold the weight of a hot tub filled with water and people. To safely support a hot tub, your wood deck will likely require reinforcement. Therefore, it’s best to have a contractor or a structural engineer assess it before hot tub installation.
