"J&J Environmental was outstanding!!! First they were the only company out of the three that I called for an estimate who came in person to do the estimate. They gave me a great price and backed it with great service. They showed up on time on the day they were scheduled to remove the asbestos, completed the work in the timeframe they quoted during the estimate, and did an excellent job. They were thorough and very professional. I can’t say enough about how polite and courteous they were from the time I first had contact with them until the follow up call after the job was completed to confirm our satisfaction. I would recommend them in a heartbeat!"

"Paul was exceptional! When he arrived he reviewed the area and explained the process of the asbestos removal. My basement is now asbestos free now and I am safe! His company was prompt with scheduling an appointment and very courteous. He also followed up with a phone shortly after my service to make sure everything was okay"

"Our project was done quickly and well - they removed old asbestos tile siding and installed vinyl siding. HGE met our expectations (and then some). From the initial visit/estimate with Ryan through the walk-through with John, any questions we had were answered. I was regularly in contact via text with John as the project progressed as well as had on-site chats with him. With how well things had gone, we asked John to write up an estimate to repair a gutter that was damaged a few years back (taken care of within days) and we have one more project on the books. Now if only this rain would stay away for a bit."

"At first, I was a bit concerned because there was no on-site inspection prior to asbestos removal. In addition, I got conflicting multiple calls regarding the scheduling and cost of the abatement. However, the actual asbestos removal was done quickly and professionally, and the clean-up and safety testing was superb."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

Whether or not to buy a home containing asbestos is ultimately a decision for the homebuyer, and there are several things to consider. When in good condition and contained, asbestos is unlikely to present a health risk—it’s when those tiny fibers are loose and airborne that they become a problem. Consider any renovations you plan on doing to the home that could disturb existing asbestos and the cost of removal. If an inspection finds asbestos in a home on the market, you could negotiate with the seller for a lower price, though this isn’t a sure thing.

Asbestos itself does not typically leak from a roof. However, if an asbestos-containing roof is damaged or deteriorated, it can release asbestos fibers into the air. This can occur when the roof is disturbed, such as during maintenance or repairs, or due to weathering over time. Exposure to airborne asbestos fibers can be harmful to health, so it is important to address any damaged asbestos roofs promptly and safely.

No, but it’s common that they do. Gravity furnaces weren’t terribly efficient so wrapping either the ductwork in asbestos, the furnace itself, or both, was something done regularly. This allowed the system to retain more heat. At the time, this greatly enhanced the efficiency of the furnaces but it wasn’t until later that we became aware of just how carcinogenic and dangerous asbestos could be.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned the use of asbestos pipe insulation in certain applications in 1975. It released further bans in 1989 and 2019. While asbestos pipe insulation was common from the 1930s to 1970s, its use fell off after the 1970s due to public concern and the EPA's actions.

While there are some sealants designed to be spray-painted over asbestos to encapsulate it, you still want to make sure it’s a specifically designed product for this purpose—not just run-of-the-mill spray paint. Furthermore, be sure you aren’t inadvertently spraying the asbestos fibers around when you take on this project, and as always, be sure to wear the proper protective gear, including a P-100-rated respirator and a disposable body suit, so as not to inadvertently breathe in or spread asbestos fibers.
