It is my opinion that everyone should have a home, permanent or not, that is comfortable, functional and beautiful. With those descriptors being subjective to whatever the personal eye and mind prefers. Rustic, Coastal, Modern, Contemporary, Minimalist, Industrial, Farmhouse, Mid-mod, Bohemian, Colorful, Dark, Bright, Monochromatic, Small, Large, and so on, and so on. This opinion of mine, is one of the large reasons I started doing what I'm doing now, and I so greatly desire to provide for, and help others cultivate precious furnishings and objects inside where they live. In order to create a true home. The idea of a 'true home' and the subjectivity to what pleases an individual supplies an endless stream of creative potential. The places where we live are some of the perfect canvases for delving into that creativity. If you haven't lately, spend a little bit of time dreaming and thinking about what would make you truly comfortable in your home. Contemplate what items, ideas or designs would enable you to move about your life just a tad smoother. Catch sight of the objects that make your face smile when you see them. Then, act on those, and if there is something standing in your way of putting those dreams into action, let me know!

Furniture Reupholstery questions, answered by experts

You should consider the time needed to clean and prepare your bedroom set for transit. A few days before moving, vacuum, dust, and clean your furniture with a mild cleaning solution. Depending on the movers and the services you pick, you might need to pre-pack the mattress and box spring in boxes designed for beds and disassemble some furniture by removing doors and hardware. Finally, don’t forget to take plenty of pictures documenting the pre-move condition in case you need to file a claim.

Consider durability, color, texture, room use, and personal style when selecting fabric. Fabrics like linen, cotton, or microfiber offer versatility and strength.

As with any project, weighing the pros and cons of upholstery can help determine if that is the right choice for you. The ultimate question is whether it’s worth reupholstering instead of buying new furniture. Here are a few of the benefits and disadvantages of reupholstering a piece of furniture.

Pros:

  • Preserving a family heirloom

  • Maintaining high-quality furniture in good condition

  • Reinventing an old piece of furniture

  • Keeping a piece of furniture from going to a landfill

Cons:

  • Spending (possibly) more than to buy a new piece of furniture

  • Finding out the frame is beyond repair

  • Waiting for the reupholstery work to be done

Paying to reupholster a piece of furniture means you want to hire the right upholstery service, especially for a piece that’s expensive or carries a lot of sentimental value. In your search for the right upholstery company, be sure to:

  • Ask around to see if friends or family know of any upholsterers

  • Find reviews of the company or individual

  • Look at the photo gallery of their work to see if they work on furniture like yours and if you like their work

  • Check qualifications and references

  • Ask the upholstery service if they work on furniture like yours, what their schedule looks like, how they handle payments, and how long the job will take

Furniture reupholstery costs vary based on many factors, but most projects cost between $350 and $1,100, with an average price of $700 per piece. Some factors that affect the price of furniture reupholstery include:

  • Size of the piece

  • Current condition of the material

  • Materials used

  • Age of your furniture

  • Additional furniture repairs

  • Number of pieces of furniture

  • Your location and whether or not the work is done on-site
