"Frazier's Tree Service did a fantastic job. Mr. Frazier gave a knowledgeable and fair estimate of the work to be done; the crew was a well-run machine, coordinating the work and completing it with skill and accuracy, with good clean-up afterwards. All of this was done in a timely manner, too --- I am very pleased with the entire experience and would use them again for future projects."

"This man was very methodical and safe ,aware of all surroundings. The old maple he took down was near 60ft high near 50 inches across the stump. Also pruned an old unruly apple tree which now is just loaded with apples. All in all we are very satisfied with the price and the work!"

"They worked with our individual needs for the project and were very professional in their service to us. They were quite safe in bringing down the tops and the whole trees. I plan on having them again to do some more work for us."

"Knowledgable arborists and tree guys. Had all the proper equipment, worked solid from time they arrived to left. Neat, respectful, polite, personable and a wealth of knowledge. I can’t say enough about these guys - how physical of job they made look seemless and they knew exactly what to do, how to do correctly and with no damage to any surroundings. They chip, haul away, clean up! AWESOME!!! I will hire these guys again when i go to cut more dead pines down. I have referred them to quite a few people already!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You can find pruning paints and sealants for trees, but you shouldn’t use them on a topped tree. Coatings like these often inhibit the tree’s healing process. An important exception is if there are dangerous fungi nearby that the tree is particularly vulnerable to, like oaks and oak wilt. Sealing cuts can help prevent fungi from taking root.

Not all leaning trees are dangerous, but they can be a hazard as gravity may eventually cause them to fall. A key factor is whether the lean is new or has been present for a long time. Trees that have grown with a lean for years are not typically an immediate danger, but a sudden lean is a cause for concern as it often indicates weakening roots. If a tree is leaning more than 15% from vertical, you should consider having it straightened or transplanted. To be safe, it's always best to hire a professional arborist to inspect any leaning tree to assess the risk and avoid potential accidents.

A pro can guide you on the alternatives to tree topping depending on the specific issues within your trees. For example, if you’re dealing with breakage and cracks in your tree, they may suggest canopy reduction, which removes less than 25% of the tree’s limbs. If you’re dealing with lesser damage, some intentional pruning may be all you need. If you’re looking to get a clearer view through your tree, the pro may also try windowing or skirting your tree.

In some states and municipalities, you will need a permit to remove a tree on your property. In many cases where permits are required, a tree must reach a maximum height before a permit is required to remove it. You can either ask your local building department or a tree removal professional if you’ll need a permit. If you do, you can expect to pay between $50 and $150 for the permit alone. Your tree removal company should pull the permit for you and include the permit fee in your total.

Debris removal is often included in the overall cost of having a tree removed from your property. However, tree maintenance service companies do not always include debris removal in their pricing, so ask any contractors offering tree trimming cost estimates whether or not removal is included. If you want to keep the wood mulch, ask if they charge extra for it as well.
