Insured Master Plumber who has been performing plumbing services for over 20 years. Rave reviews on our website, by our loyal Customers. Small, family owned and operated plumbing company. Good old fashioned plumbing...good old fashioned prices.
"Do Not Hire This Plumber. Rob Metz Plumbing & Sewer Lining came to our home to evaluate a possible leak on our main water line. He concluded after a brief summation that there was in fact a leak and he could repair it. A contract would be forthcoming that evening and we did receive his company contract. Four days later Rob called and wanted to renegotiate his estimate since he could use the work. He strongly suggested we also hire American Leak Detection to pinpoint the leak and we did as he advised and they were hired immediately. The owner, Wayne came and attempted to find the exact location of the break but was unable to do so. He would flag the area where he suspected the problem to be, but he was not able to pinpoint it for Rob and telephoned to let him know. It was also established at that time that we were losing 300-400 gallons/day and Wayne thought it was a good idea to turn our water off at the curb. After all Rob would be onsite in the morning to start the job. The following morning Rob called to cancel our job, an hour before he was scheduled to start. No exact reason just excuses, but he made it clear he was not happy that the leak was not precisely located. New start date would be the following Wednesday. I reminded him we had a signed contract to fix the leak that day and that we had no water since American Leak had shut off our water. As we think back on this phone call we realized that Rob NEVER notified PA One Call about our dig site and locating the underground utilities. Later that afternoon Rob telephoned once again to say he would need the weekend to think about our job and would be in touch Monday morning. Once again, I questioned him about the contract he had us sign for the job that was to be performed that day and we still had no water service to our house. He said restoring water to the house was an "easy two second fix" and since it was an "easy two second fix" we waited for him to show. We never heard from him again, ever. We then proceeded to hire another plumber who showed that weekend to evaluate our leak. We were extremely impressed that he was onsite for one and half hours, unlike Rob who was onsite for twenty minutes. New plumber was much more appreciative than Rob that American Leak had at least flagged the area and the next step would be PA One Call. New plumber had a plan to locate the leak and he proceeded to peg his dig site. Rob showed no initiative in doing anything of this sort. First light Monday morning the utility companies began arriving to mark the lines. As the utilities were flagging their lines an email was sent by Jenn, wife/office manager for Rob inquiring about another plumber hired to do the job. Seems Metz Plumbing FINALLY notified PA One Call and were informed there was an existing job ticket for our address. Since Rob never called Monday as he stated he would he had no idea that a new plumber was hired. Stranded without water and our water line still broken it was time we moved onto an experienced & professional plumber. A signed legal binding contract means nothing to Metz Plumbing. We were left with a useless piece of paper outlining the date and scope of the work. However, Jenn claims Rob cancelled our contract Friday afternoon, but we received nothing in writing to that effect and why then did he proceed to call and have the utilities flag the job site Monday morning? SIDE NOTE: Prior to the above review, we had written a similar review on another site. Jenn replied with a rebuttal and publicly disclosed our supposed distressed financial situation for all to read on the internet. Rob, on the other hand chose to personally telephone one of our family members and then proceeded to telephone a family acquaintance about the so called false statements & accusations that were written about his business. Both of you lack business integrity, ethics and professionalism and your actions speak volumes."

The regulations around whether drain pipe installers need to hold licenses or certifications differ based on where you live and the type of drain pipe installed. Municipalities have varying rules and regulations about who can and can’t perform plumbing work. However, we recommend hiring a certified plumber to install or modify your drain lines. Licensed plumbers will perform a high-quality, professional installation, which translates to a lower risk of clogs and leaks in the future. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to confirm the license status of your potential plumber before hiring them to install your drain pipe.
Plumbers will typically take one to two hours to install a new drain pipe, but that timeline can vary based on the area’s accessibility, the drain length, and the type of drain line. Replacing an easily accessible p-trap under a sink could take as little as a half an hour, while replacing a larger section of drain line behind the wall could take as long as three to four hours. When hiring a plumber for your specific installation, ask them to provide an estimated timeline to get a more accurate assessment.
You might need a permit to modify or repair any portion of your plumbing system, including drainage lines, depending on where you live. In some areas, simple replacements of existing drain lines don’t require a permit. We recommend asking your drain pipe installer or your local building department about permitting requirements. In many cases, only certified plumbers can pull plumbing permits, so you’ll usually need to leave the permit application to your professional. The fee for the permit will be passed to you on your project bill, though.
We highly recommend leaving the work of replacing drain pipes to a professional plumber. Drain pipes are a key part of your plumbing system, and making mistakes during the installation or even using the wrong size pipes for your specific fixture can lead to an elevated risk of leaks and clogs. Additionally, drain pipes prevent harmful sewer gas from entering your home, so hiring a professional plumber is essential to keeping the risk of leaks and clogs low and avoid reducing your indoor air quality.
The cost to install a drain pipe is $600 on average, but the total can range between $150 and $2,000. Some cost factors that influence your project price include the type of drain, the area’s accessibility, the proximity of existing drain lines, and whether you’re installing a new drain or replacing an old one. Replacing the p-trap or s-trap under a single fixture will usually cost around $150, while replacing a main drain pipe can cost well over $2,000.
