"From pricing to performance and completion Greg was a pleasure working with the entire project. I would highly recommend them. My project with Greg was not only complicated but also a very tight schedule to accommodate a back yard party . Greg was certainly up for the challenge and got us complete on time!"

"The contractor was very professional. He had the correct equipment to do the job. His crew was very knowledgeable and helpful. He worked through to completion and met my deadline quite efficiently. They did a good job. I will hire the crew again when I need excavation services."

"Had this company clean/inspect our wood burning stove when we bought our house a year ago. After the huge wind storm the cap for the chimney fell off. Called around 11am to get it repairs… Chris had his crew around our area was literally there in less than 20 minutes and everything was fixed! Awesome company. Will be using them for everything."

"I hired Hauck Excavating to demolish a wind damaged 2 story grain elevator building located between 4 - 16' grain bins and only 7 feet from a busy highway. He did the work with solid planning, great equipment and great trafic control. The grain bins were not damaged and no material hit near the road or traffic. Work was done quickly in coordination with PPL and the site was left clean and clear. I highly recommend Shane Hauck Excavating"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.

Depth is not a qualifying component of evacuation. Any human-made cut, cavity, or depression in the earth’s surface is considered excavation. The hole from excavation can be any size, shape, or depth. Excavation is used to create foundations, reservoirs, drainage ditches, and roads. Long, narrow excavations are called trenches and are often used for underground utilities.

Above ground pools are not buried in the ground. Typically, above ground pools are semi-permanent. One reason they’re more affordable is that you don’t have to dig for an inground pool and pour concrete or another material. However, you can choose to install a semi inground pool, which is a hybrid between the two.

The digging depth will depend on the size of the trencher you use. Even smaller units can dig up to 4 feet deep, which is plenty for a DIY job. However, much larger trenchers can reach a depth of 18 feet and are better used by a team of pro contractors, not a single DIYer. As with all home improvement projects, use the right tool for the job and proceed with caution.

In most areas, you will need a permit for excavation work, even for projects that only involve grading or yard leveling. Permit requirements depend on your local government and the scope of the project, but they are especially common for significant digging or work that could affect utilities or public property. These permits help protect the local topography and prevent drainage issues. An experienced excavation company will typically know whether permits are needed and can often handle the process of pulling and closing them for you. You can also verify permit requirements by contacting your local building department and describing your project.
