"Dan and his team did a fantastic job. My initial issue ended up being a lot more elaborate than initially anticipated but I was so pleased with their initial work I hired them again to address the larger system issue. I absolutely recommend and will definitely look to hire them again next time I have any electrical problems."

"     The lights accenting the front of our house were 15 years old and only a couple of them were working.  Because the shrubbery in front of the house had grown, the remaining lights weren't tall enough to throw much light at all.  We needed a new solution.  Dave was extremely prompt with contacting me and returning all calls made in an effort to coordinate schedules.  He arrived exactly when he said he would and worked for 6 hours.  I had to be at school the day he came so my husband stayed home.  Because this project was so important to me, I wanted to speak with Dave after he took a look at what we currently had so I called him from school. He explained very clearly what he thought we should do.  Both my husband and I agreed so Dave went to our local Lowe's to buy a different type of light.  He also installed a more efficient power source.  He said he would save our old lights that were still working so that we could run more wiring off what he was going to install if we wanted to use the old lights to light up another area of the yard.  By the time I got home that evening, it was already dark.  When I pulled up to our house, I had to stop the car and just sit there and look!  The lighting was spectacular.  The house never looked so good!  I had to call Dave and tell him what a fabulous job he had done.  There was another surprise.  He had me walk outside and showed me how he had gone ahead and taken our old lights and installed them to light the side of the house and some shrubbery in the front yard!  WOW!!
I had briefly mentioned that our chandelier in the entry way always flickered when we turned it on and that there was a prong broken off a cord that was sticking in one of our electrical outlets on our deck.  He took the time to fix both of those things also.
For the extra 4 hours of work, Dave charged us only the Angie's List deal rate which was $40.00 an hour--what a bargain.  Everything about this job was done professionally and my husband said that Dave is a "really nice guy."  We have already spoken to him about coming back in the spring to work on a project in our backyard.
This was my second experience with Angie's List providers.  Both were outstanding.  I will always come to Angie's List first for our future needs.

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage. To avoid this situation, hire a local generator installer to correctly size your whole-house generator.

Whole-house generators need to be installed on level ground several feet away from walls and other objects. Because they tap into the electrical system directly, they usually need to be close to your home electrical panel for a transfer switch installation. It also helps with installation if they are near to a gas line or propane tank installation.

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.

In most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home generators. A permit for a generator usually costs between $50 and $250, depending on where you live. Your electrician or certified generator installer will usually pull the permit for you—and might be required to do so by your building department—but you’ll be on the hook for the cost of the permit. You should ask your installer before agreeing to any work if they will pull the necessary permits for your project.
