"This was an excellent tree removal experience. I was concerned about a tree that was damaged by another tree that had fallen. The communications were fast. I felt like Crum Tree Service was very understanding that I was concerned about the state of the tree, and they scheduled and completed the removal very quickly. They did a wonderful, thorough job. Highly recommended!"

"Robbie's Reasonable Tree & Lawn came to my house the day I contacted them whereas 4 others that I contacted hadn't even called me back. About 2 weeks prior, I had a tree service come to give an estimate that was 3 time more expensive than Robbie's quote. I highly recommend Robbie's. They did an EXCELLENT JOB cutting down more than 20 trees. Robbie's Reasonable Tree & Lawn's workers really work hard and are so friendly. I would not hesitate to call them again if I have anymore trees to be cut down."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

In most cases, your neighbor is responsible for roots from their tree that cause damage to your property. If your pavement, the foundation of your home, or a fence is damaged by roots from a neighbor’s tree, you likely will have legal recourse for financial relief. While it’s better to notify your neighbor of any problems you notice as soon as they arise to avoid costly damage, there are some instances where filing a civil suit is your only recourse. Your homeowner’s insurance company might wish to do so on your behalf if you file a claim.

Tree experts don’t advise against digging through tree roots, but instead encourage caution and consultation with a local arborist to make sure you don’t damage the tree’s structure or interrupt its water or nutrient intake. An arborist can recommend specific practices when digging and help prune the roots or dig a trench for utilities with a tool that can remove soil without touching the tree’s roots.

Yes, forestry mulching can grind stumps, but the level of effectiveness depends on the equipment used. Drum mulchers can break down smaller stumps, but larger or deep-rooted stumps may require a dedicated stump grinder for complete removal. If full stump removal is necessary for replanting or construction, additional excavation may be needed. Always check with your forestry mulching provider to confirm whether they offer stump grinding and if their equipment is suitable for your specific needs.

The best tools for tree removal include a chainsaw for large trees, an ax for notching and cutting down small trees, and a wedge to help control the direction a tree falls in. A hatchet can be useful for very small trees, but won’t be effective for medium to large trees.

If executed correctly your tree should survive after being transplanted to a new spot. However, effective transplanting requires six months, careful root pruning, safe transport to the new location, and replanting in prime soil conditions. You’ll also need an appropriately sized root ball for a complete tree transplant. A good rule of thumb is that, for every inch in diameter, your tree’s root ball needs to be around 11 inches. So a tree with a diameter of six inches needs a root ball of approximately 66 inches.
