We reached out originally as D&E Lawn Care and pressure washing had done a project with us a few years ago when they just started an We were thrilled to learn that the Company now offers full property services in our area. We engaged them for a new landscape design and for property maintenance services. The process was seamless from the first call we made an they rezch to work on time , and the result is just what we hoped for! D&E and the whole crew, they were extremely caring and professional throughout the project. I would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the extraordinary focus and passion D&E brings to the work. "We hired Mr. Gorman initially for Deck repair, power washing, deck stain, side vinyl work, and gate installation. While he was completing the jobs we had listed above we had also asked for additional work to be done on our lattice as well as our garage floor. While he did replace the boards on the deck that needed repair, some were not properly screwed and were still loose after he left. We did not realize any of this initially. He then pressure-washed the lower deck by our pool and stained it. After the job was completed we had no idea all of the paint chips from our deck and his power washing went directly into the pool. Our pool robot has been filled with paint chips since he left and we are now having issues with cleaning that up. While painting the deck, he never masked anything so everything around the deck was sprayed the paint color which included our Japanese Maple Tree and flowers. When he constructed the gates, the screws were too big and the sharp ends were exposed. When it came to the lattice he choose the plastic one instead of asking what we preferred. Once he brought it to our house we informed him we did not like it and we were unhappy with his purchase We informed him we would prefer the wooden one instead. While he had put the lattice up the job seemed rushed as it fell a few days after he left due to there not being any nails in the lattice. During this whole process, we had a dumpster here for our personal use so that we could clean out our basement. It was never intended for deck cleanup or anything that had to do with the jobs being done by Tom. He initially asked to throw out a few boards and we approved. On his last day here, he threw out all of the old lattice, wood, his tools that broke we could not even finish throwing out our items from our basement because of this. He never even asked permission to do it again. Instead, he piled up our dumpster to the top and had wood everywhere. Our yard was left a mess with broken wood and old nails exposed which is a huge issue when you have children and animals. It is just coming courtesy to clean up after yourself. After he had finished completing the job and left we noticed a few things. We contacted him about our concerns such as the lattice falling off, as well as the stairs and the deck being loose and not secure. He informed us he would be by in a few days. He came over today without notifying anyone and while he was here our security system overheard him talking badly about us. He nailed the lattice and it ended up splitting and half of it is still not secure . He failed to do the other things I addressed via text. Overall, there was little attention to detail when it came to painting, fixing the deck steps, putting together the gates as well as proper disposal of work items/materials. When meeting him he seemed as if he would do whatever we wanted to satisfy us. Towards the end, it seemed to us that he wanted to get the job done and get his money! To pay almost 14,000 and still have all these issues is just not acceptable. We are not happy with this experience."

"He came out and I showed him the taking out of an A/C going out of the house. He quoted me an additional $700 to fill the hole up but we're waiting until the weather turns warmer. He's very nice and he said he'd honor the price no matter when he came."

Deck Maintenance FAQs, answered by experts

Rot loves moisture, so deck rot typically impacts the parts of a board that stay wet. This includes the underside of boards, in addition to support posts and joists. However, any part of a board can rot, given the right conditions.

The average cost to professionally clean or pressure wash a deck is around $150, with prices typically ranging from $100 to $600. Several factors influence the final price, including the deck's size, material, condition, and how long it has been since its last cleaning. For a smaller deck of about 300 square feet, you might pay around $100. For a larger deck of 1,000 square feet or more, the cost could be closer to $300 to $400. Decks that are very dirty or haven't been cleaned in years may require more time and special detergents, which will increase the price. The deck's material also plays a role. Wood decks often cost more to clean because they require a gentle power washing technique to avoid damage. Composite decks are typically less expensive to clean, and cleaning a metal deck may cost around $100.

Your deck may pop, and your neighbor’s deck may not for a number of reasons. Whether or not a deck pops will depend on how it was made, the conditions it’s exposed to, and the materials. Improper spacing is a common reason for increased pressure between deck boards. Moisture penetration is another.

There are several methods for attaching stair stringers to a deck. The best way is to bolt the stringers to the deck joists using three carriage bolts in a triangular pattern. This method offers the sturdiest fit for stairs that won’t budge. Alternatively, attach the stringers to the deck rims using lag bolts or to the posts using adjustable slope hangers.

The proper height for a stair riser or deck step is between four and seven inches, with seven inches often considered the most comfortable. Building your stairs to this height ensures a strain-free step position and minimizes the risk of trip and fall injuries. For optimal safety and comfort, especially on deck stairs, a rise of around seven inches should be paired with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. While it is possible to design stairs with risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. Always check with your local building codes, as they may mandate specific dimensions that differ from these general recommendations.
