"We hired Zach and Ed to clean the rugs throughout our entire house. They are the only company I called who actually came to see the house and the condition of the rugs. I appreciated that their price estimate was based on seeing the house and not just a quick number on the phone based on the number of rooms. Some of the other companies won’t move tables or reach under couches but they don’t specify those details on the phone. Some of our rugs are newer while some were older or got more foot traffic. When Zach came to my house he was clear about the difference and how he would approach each area. He told me what gets moved and how they handle closets and other places hard to reach places. The day of the cleaning Ed and Zach were prompt and thorough with their service. The cleaning went smoothly and the carpets came out great. They even cleaned an old upholstered chair of my mom’s that I love and it looks better than ever! My husband and I are very pleased with the quality of the service and the price. We would highly recommend First Quality Carpet to anyone looking for a excellent service, friendly professionals, and fair, accurate pricing. We will use them again, for sure!"

"We've had Karma Diva cleaning our house biweekly for a few years now, and we are really grateful for our cleaner, Bethany, and for the eco-friendly, people-first principles guiding the business and the owner's integrity and clear communication, especially in the context of the pandemic. We trust Bethany (our super-suspicious cats love her now) and we trust the business."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Excellent house cleaning service. Val personally came out to the house to assess the mess and delivered a quote that was way more reasonable than the competitors. They even managed to start the service within a day, which was incredible. The women who came to clean the house were extremely polite and very detail oriented. The house looks amazing. I would happily use this service again and definitely recommend them!"

Cleaning questions, answered by experts

To clean an old dishwasher without a filter, start by removing the bottom rack to access the drain area. Use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe down the interior, paying special attention to the corners and crevices where food particles and debris can build up. Pour a cup of white vinegar into a dishwasher-safe bowl and place it on the top rack, then run a hot water cycle to help break down grease and grime. After the cycle, sprinkle a cup of baking soda across the bottom of the dishwasher and run a short hot water cycle to deodorize and further clean the interior.

When hiring a housekeeper, prioritize candidates with proven experience and solid references. Look for background checks and ask for proof of insurance or bonding to protect your home. Discuss their cleaning process, the supplies they use, and whether they have any specialized training for surfaces like marble or hardwood. These steps help ensure your housekeeper is both skilled and trustworthy.

To hire a professional house cleaner, start by searching online for local services or asking friends and colleagues for recommendations. Research potential companies by reviewing their websites, social media accounts, and online customer reviews. Contact them to inquire about their services and charges. It is also recommended to meet with prospective cleaners in your home to allow them to see the scope of the job, discuss expectations, and negotiate a price for the service. Always do your research before choosing a cleaning service to ensure it’s the right fit for you.

You can remove stubborn stains from your toilet by scrubbing with a store-bought cleaner appropriate for the toilet’s material. If you’re looking for a homemade solution, you can also use vinegar and baking soda—just pour 2 cups of white vinegar around the edges of your toilet. Once the bowl is wet with vinegar, sprinkle 3 tablespoons of baking soda, concentrating on the stains. Scrub the bowl with a toilet brush and flush to clean the mixture.

Just a note: While combining baking soda and vinegar is OK, never mix that solution with any other cleaners.

To neutralize mildew smell, you can use natural deodorizers like baking soda or activated charcoal. Baking soda absorbs odors; sprinkle it liberally on the affected area, let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum it up. Activated charcoal, available in pouches, works similarly. Vinegar, with its natural acidic properties, can also neutralize odors. Mix equal parts water and vinegar, spray the affected area lightly, then blot it with a dry cloth. Enzymatic cleaners are effective too, breaking down odor-causing compounds.
