"Avoid this company at all costs. I hired them in Sept 2024 to replace oil tanks, and while they arrived on time, the installation was reckless?they cut through two floor joists instead of properly routing the fill line, compromising my home's structural integrity. They dismissed my concerns and promised a repair that never happened. Even if they had, it would only matter if it passed a home inspection. "Installing pavers went fine for the most part. However very disorganized and all over the place when it comes to everything else. Including getting a permit (multiple errors on submitting for permit), drainage with gutter system (overflowed every time it rained, fixed but just dumps to side of yard), mulch (overpriced and mushrooms within a week), grass to fix yard ruined by excavator (used cheapest grass seed that is very different from original grass and netting killed all the grass anyway), ditching project at the end and didn?t stain wood for our patio roof and never gave us paver footings we paid for. Also doesn?t do patio roofs and had to go through another company. Mike wanted to supply the cedar but ended up the wood wasn?t cut right and instead of helping out with the issue, I had to fix it all with the patio roof company myself. Many other things, but long story short paver process was just okay, anything else is a nightmare."

The rules and regulations regarding groundwater use vary between states. To find out if you can dig a well on your property, you’ll have to consult these regulations, address any compliance requirements, and get the appropriate permits. It’s also important to check that your intended location has the right geology and water table to support a well.

Trenching is not the same as boring. Boring uses a drill to make a tunnel for underground utilities, but trenching involves digging with an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. Boring is more precise and expensive, and it’s best for installing utilities underneath buildings, roads, and bodies of water. Trenching is simpler but can cause more disruption to landscaping and ecosystems.

Depending on the severity of the freeze and the method used, thawing frozen underground pipes can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. Applying heat directly to the pipe using heat tape, infrared lamps, or hot water jetting can speed up the process. However, patience and careful monitoring are key to avoiding pipe damage.

You can dig 60 to 80 linear feet by hand per day depending on the depth. Digging a 100-foot trench by hand will take you two work days, but it can take longer if you have heavy or rocky soil. If you’re digging a deep trench or one that’s over 100 feet, consider renting a mechanical trencher, such as a walk-behind or ride-on, or calling a pro for help. 

Because decomposed granite is a durable material, a crushed rock or gravel base is optional as long as the DG is properly installed and compacted. However, installing a base is a good idea because it will ensure proper drainage and stability and act as a weed suppressant (although you may still occasionally have to pull weeds). Installing an adequate base can also increase the durability of driveways and walkways. If you forego the paver base or gravel underneath, line the area with landscaping fabric to avoid weeds.
