"We scheduled Jim to give us an estimate for replacing our 22-year-old roof - initially this was a planned repair but turned into an insurance claim when he found evidence of hail damage. He met the adjuster and made sure to point out the damage he'd seen, and the claim was approved. Jim provided his proposal quickly and stayed in touch frequently throughout the planning stages - eg., confirming our shingle choices, discussing scheduling. On the day work was to start, the crew showed up promptly and worked throughout the day to get as much done as possible before dark. Day 2 was unfortunately several days later due to weather, but the work was completed without problems. The new roof looks great, and more importantly, is holding up well through the first few winter storms. They also replaced several gutters, downspouts, and window screens that were damaged by the hailstorm. They will be back once the weather warms up to do strip and reprint the deck (also damaged by hail). Their price was about higher than the other estimate we got, but Jim went the extra mile to answer our questions, meet the insurance adjuster, etc., and we were very comfortable with him. It would have been helpful to know ahead of time that they would need access inside the home to confirm that the skylights (two in one room and one in another) were installed properly - it was just luck that I was able to come home to let them in. Other than that little communication glitch, I was very happy with the work.

"I recently contacted Tasi for an estimate for interior painting and a pretreatment for tobacco stained walls. He came out a week later, and gave an excellent estimate with a rough draft almost immediately, because he had a pad. He was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the project. He knew about the pre treatment which some contractors did not. He was very thorough with very competitive pricing. He was always in contact and just very professional. I was very impressed. I would definitely recommend his business for estimates before hiring anyone else."

"

Process went great.

Very quick for the estimate, which originally included my Painting and also Power Washing and Staining my Deck. The owner revised my estimate quickly when I asked him to remove the deck from the proposal.

They came out the day before to prep the area and were able to finish most of the work.  I was unable to have anyone at the house that day to allow the front door to remain open to dry.  They came back the following week to paint the front door.

everything cme out great and I would definitely hire them the next time that I need painting done.

"Bob did an amazing job painting the walls and ceiling in our oversized family room. He not only patched and sanded a wall that a previous contractor had left in a terrible condition, he filled and sanded a ton of nail holes, repaired the nail pops on the ceiling, sealed the ceiling and walls and then painted everything. The room looks absolutely incredible! We couldn't be more pleased with the results. Would definitely recommend DiMenna Brothers!"

Small jobs welcome

"Best experience with a contractor ever. Not just painting contractor, any contractor I have ever used. Junior gave a good estimate, his crew was on time, great work, cleaned up and paid attention to detail. I could not be happier with my new kitchen walls and cabinets."

"From wall paper removal to glue removal to preparing a wall as if it were an artist canvas to display a painting, was a process. but Mr. Mcdonell did not rush and was attentive to a small areas that required special attention. Once he is done the area is spotless. Great job. Only downfall he arrived late but he did stay late to get the job done right."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths

Always sand a deck before repainting so the wood is smooth and ready for paint. While you do not need to fully remove paint before repainting, sanding helps remove any areas with weather and sun damage. Sanding also helps remove chipped or flaking paint and opens the wood pores to improve paint adhesion.

Avoid using cleaning products that are abrasive or contain bleach or acidic components on composite decking to avoid discoloration. Early-generation Trex decking isn’t designed to handle pressure washer cleaning—and if you use them on second-generation boards, always use a low setting to avoid the risk of damage that can risk voiding your warranty.

While the answer varies based on weather, 10 a.m. is a good time to start painting. The dew will have dried, meaning there’s no moisture on the house, and the temperature will likely be moderate and the sunlight less direct. Starting mid-morning should also give you enough daylight and pleasant weather to work on the job for several hours.

When staining a deck, don’t skip surface prep, avoid staining damp or dirty boards, and don’t apply stain in extreme heat, cold, or wet conditions. Never overload the wood with a stain, as too much can cause tackiness or peeling. Also, don’t forget to test a small area first to ensure the color and finish look right.
