"We were in the process of moving and needed to have our walls repainted so they looked fresh, new, and clean for selling. They did a great job, made sure to not spill any paint on floor or carpet, were able to get job in one day! They were also very affordable so we were able to do this while also making other changes to sell without breaking our budget!"

"Townsley contracting is a great local contractor that backs up his work For a fair price. James is very prompt and personable to work with and offers logical advise. Along with replacing our roof James has power washed house, deck, stained deck and fixed woodpecker holes on soffits. All good!"

"Estimator arrived when expected. I was very impressed by his professionalism and knowledge. While I did not choose Nolan's for the deck which is my immediate need, I will most likely use them for the interior work."

"

Process went great.

Very quick for the estimate, which originally included my Painting and also Power Washing and Staining my Deck. The owner revised my estimate quickly when I asked him to remove the deck from the proposal.

They came out the day before to prep the area and were able to finish most of the work.  I was unable to have anyone at the house that day to allow the front door to remain open to dry.  They came back the following week to paint the front door.

everything cme out great and I would definitely hire them the next time that I need painting done.

"This is not the first nor will it be the last time we call Bob DiMenna.     He is responsive; meticulous, customer focused at all times -always assuring that the date; time is convenient to begin job.    Our siding especially on second level needed attention.   Bob really did a great job of powerwashing both levels.    Looks like new......will be an annual event.............
Will be calling him for staining deck in the fall."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

The best temperature to paint a pool deck is between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, because many paints and sealers require temperatures warm enough for the chemical reaction to take place for proper curing. The paint should not be allowed to freeze, and temperatures above 90 degrees can cause the paint to dry too quickly, also preventing the chemical reaction from following through to completion.

Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. With that in mind, you don’t want to add more stain than the wood can absorb, as you risk covering up its natural markings. Generally, two coats is the maximum you should do, although very dense hardwoods may only be able to take a single coat.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.
