"Mifflin Construction did a quality job for a reasonable price in a very short time. The guys were very happy and considerate with my requests. "The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Many people remove aluminum siding to get to the wood underneath, allowing them to paint, stain, or finish the wood to give the home a brand-new aesthetic. With that in mind, you find plywood and related types of wood underneath aluminum siding, but you also run into fiber cement board, strand board, and a diverse array of other building materials. It depends on the original design of the house.

A self-etching primer is the best option for aluminum siding. These are specifically designed to bond with bare metals, among other surfaces, leading to better adhesion and corrosion resistance. An oil-based primer is a good alternative if you can’t find a self-etching primer.

The cost to install or replace brick or stone siding generally ranges from $10 to $50 per square foot. The final price depends on several factors, including the specific material type, local labor rates, and any necessary preparation work, such as removing old siding. For example, different types of stone have varying costs per square foot: natural stone ($4.50–$35), stone veneer ($11–$13), faux stone ($6–$9), and cultured or manufactured stone ($5–$8).

Insulated vinyl siding is very durable and can last for 20 to 40 years. The extra support that the insulation provides helps to make the vinyl siding less susceptible to damages from weather and other minor wear and tear. Vinyl siding on its own may  be less durable than other types of siding like fiber cement, but when coupled with insulation it is stronger than usual.

Choosing siding combinations that look good together comes down to finding textures and colors that complement each other. You want some contrast so that your home doesn’t look boring or too uniform, but you also want the materials to play off of each other so that each makes the other stand out. It’s a good idea to hire a siding professional to create 3D renderings for you so you can get a sense of what your home will look and feel like before you get started.
