Small jobs welcome

"I contacted several tree service providers in the area. Stiles was the only one that responded quickly, gave the fair estimate and neatly completed the project within the time frame necessary for my Insurance companies requirements. Professional, respectful and courteous in every aspect. I highly recommend Stiles Tree Service and will definitely call them for any future projects."

"Amazing job! Jeremy was easy to talk to and always available for questions. He made it out here quickly to trim a huge black walnut in our backyard and also cut another tree down. It didnâ t take him and co-worker long at all. They also stacked the wood in the back very nicely for free. You really canâ t beat the price and the customer service was amazing. I recommend him to anyone that needs a tree cut down or limbs cut off, especially if it requires a climber to do so as Jeremy is an experienced climber. I will be giving out his info to anyone that needs some tree work done."

"I have had John do work for myself & family members for several years now. I also am on Saxton borough council in charge of town Maintenance and John has done many jobs for the borough. He always finishes his work and does more than expected. I would refer him any time I have the chance. He is a professional in his field. I would highly recommend him. Larry Miller"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Unless it’s dead or dangerous, think twice about cutting down a tree in your yard. They’re good for health, well-being, wildlife, and the environment. Plus, local authorities often have regulations prohibiting the removal of trees, especially protected species or individual trees with historical value.

Signs include dead branches, growth over structures, diseases, pests, or roots impacting hardscapes.

A dead tree should always be cut down, because it could fall and cause injuries or damage, and it can also attract insects like carpenter ants. A tree that’s diseased beyond repair should also be cut down, but it’s not always easy for a homeowner to tell. Signs of disease include dying branches, a hollow trunk, leaning, and discolored or missing leaves, but your best bet is to hire a local arborist who can evaluate the tree and tell you if it can be saved or should be cut down.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.

It's easy to misidentify trees that appear to be maple trees due to similarities in leaf shapes. Sweetgum, sycamore, and yellow poplar all have leaf shapes and appearances similar to maples. The fact that around a dozen maple tree varieties exist, only about half of which are considered common, makes misidentification an often typical occurrence.
