Small jobs welcome

"This is my second time using TedWen and couldnâ t be more pleased to have a professional that I can trust. I had an exterior door installed and made fit into what would have been for a custom fit door. TedWen improvised and problem solved on the spot to safe me a significant amount of money not having to buy a custom size door. This was a tricky install that was done perfectly. I couldnâ t be happier with with the finished product."

"I hired the Wright Miller for a couple home projects involving deck staining, wood filling, and painting my inside door casing. I was not only happy with the outcome for all three, but especially impressed at the before and after difference of the rotting wood that was replaced in one area and filled in another. My decks now look brand new and beautiful, and I could not be happier. While Deen did all of the difficult labor, I felt like I was in charge the entire time. Moreover, he kept me informed during the whole process and didn't accept payment until the job was finished to my liking. He really cares about the projects he takes on and his customers. To be sure, he not only dropped the price down a bit, but he also has made arrangements to survey the decks every 6 months until a year after the completion of the project. Some handyman services charge for an estimate or for a visit, but not the Wright Miller! All of their estimates are at no charge to the customer, which is a win-win. The Wright Miller will be my go-to for all future home projects."

"The owner Scott Fitzgerald has been very helpful and accommodating with the changes that were made to the contract. Scott has been so helpful; and has gone above and beyond on several occasions to make sure that we get the most out of my budget. The plaster work that Blake did is beautiful; and I will definitely be going back to Fitzgerald Home Improvements in the future."

Childproofing questions, answered by experts

The average cost of childproofing services is $410. This cost can range from $190 to $630 or more, depending on the size of your home and what services you need.

The location of the childproofing additions also plays a vital role in the overall cost. For example, a bathroom is relatively small and costs about $150 to fully childproof. However, if you have a swimming pool, you could spend as much as $1,500 to $10,000 to make it entirely safe for small children, including adding a pool fence.

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are designed to be safe for use in homes with children. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the electrical slots when not in use, which helps protect children from electric shock if they try to insert an object. While they are the safest option available and highly effective, it's important to note that few things are truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug. For this reason, it's best to use tamper-resistant outlets over less effective solutions like plastic covers, which can be removed or pose a choking hazard. Always supervise young children around any electrical outlets or devices.

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are a safe and effective way to protect children from electrical hazards. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the outlet slots when not in use, preventing a child from inserting foreign objects. While they are the safest option available, it's important to note that few things can be considered truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug, so constant supervision around any electrical device is recommended. Tamper-resistant outlets are a much safer solution than childproofing covers, which can be removed by children and may pose a choking hazard.

A professional childproofer will first survey your home to identify potentially dangerous locations, including stairs, cabinets, and pools. Once approved, your professional will order and install the safety equipment for you.

Some ways a childproofing professional will make your home safe include:

  • Anchoring large furniture

  • Installing safety gates

  • Installing safety latches on cabinets and drawers

  • Covering railings that could trap a child

  • Covering electrical outlets

  • Installing a swimming pool fence

  • Removing or covering electrical cords where possible

In many cases, you can DIY home childproofing with success. You can purchase childproofing tools like cabinet locks, outlet covers, and table-edge guards and install them easily.

However, it's best to have a professional childproofing service work on larger projects like pool safety or furniture anchoring. These safety measures can take a lot of time and effort to DIY, plus, you want to ensure the tasks are done correctly to keep your child safe.
