"Absolutely outstanding! It was everything we hoped for. They showed up when they were suppose to show up, did the work, they were very professional, and one of the repairs were outside of their knowledge base, but they researched it and they came back and fixed the siding."

"If you need framing and/or drywall work, Fidelis with A Fresh Look should be your last stop. A humble, hard working, and excellent professional who I wish I would have found sooner to do work in an old and challenging home where nothing is level."

"Ed and his staff are the best, they went above and beyond what a repairman would normally do. They repaired my popcorn ceiling, installed new drywall where necessary, painted the ceiling and the walls in the living room and dining room. They installed laminate in the living room and dining room, foyer and kitchen. Also, they Installed baseboards and corner rounds, moved appliances and furniture and cleaned up. My condo looks brand new."

"George professionally repaired an area of the kitchen ceiling which had been previously 'repaired' by two other contractors. It looks wonderful! He also fixed two other problem spots for us. I would certainly call him for any future issues."

"Barron Masonry has done a fantastic job replacing the stucco of a 2 story wall at my 100 year old house. They are extremely professional and friendly. Communications on when the work would start, how it will be done, and when it ends was clear. The team of two was always on time, very efficient, and the work site was left clean. Over the two weeks they were here the site was always in good shape at the end of the day. They are also open to questions and suggestions, just talk to them. Barron was not the cheapest offer but the saying â you get what you pay forâ rings true. They are extremely experienced and deeply care about their work. If I need stucco work again I will hire them again."

"We hired Robert Christoper’s to do repointing on our stone house. They were prompt, explained the process, made sure to try to match the existing mortar as closely as possible and cleaned up thoroughly upon completion of the project. Very pleased with the work."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

Sand and gravel are two suitable options for filling behind a retaining wall. If you’re building your own retaining wall, you’ll complete this part of the process—known as backfilling—after you finish laying the blocks. Make sure not to skip it—otherwise, you could wind up with drainage issues, which can cause your retaining wall to collapse.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.
