"Doug did a very good job. We enjoyed having him here. He listened to what I told him I wanted and followed up very efficiently. He cleaned up the site well. We love our new deck. I would definitely recommend him. In fact, he is coming back in a few weeks to do another job."

"Bono Construction did an amazing job building my new deck. From start to finish, they were professional, efficient, and paid close attention to detail. The quality of the work is outstanding—sturdy, beautiful, and exactly what I envisioned. They stayed on schedule, kept me informed throughout the process, and left the site clean and tidy. I couldn’t be happier with the result and highly recommend them to anyone looking for top-notch craftsmanship."

"Maria and her team were very professional and courteous. They worked well together and hardly ever took breaks. This team hand brushed the entire house and it looks great. Clean-up was well done too. Maria was one of the only painters in the area that was willing to work us into her very busy schedule. She knew we had a very strict timeline and the job had to be finished quickly (we had renters arriving). Despite all the rain we had last week and an unfortunate personal issue, they got the job done just in time. I'm grateful for Maria and her team and their diligence. We would recommend this team and would definitely hire them again. Thanks Maria!

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

DIY staining or painting is manageable with proper preparation, including safety measures, necessary tools, and adherence to safe weather conditions for application.

When sourced responsibly, the most sustainable wood decking options are timber trees like redwood, pine, Douglas fir, Nootka cypress, and Western red cedar. These tree species are fast-growing with low carbon emissions. Plus, most timber woods make durable deck materials because of their resistance to rot and decay over time.

Yes, and in some cases, frozen ground may improve the digging process for footings due to sturdier conditions. It’s easier than working in muddy conditions, which are more common in the spring. Contractors may use machinery that makes this step a breeze, so harder ground shouldn’t affect the building process.

In general, you need a footing at each corner of your deck, and within 8 feet of each other. So, how many you need depends on the size and shape of your deck, plus any local building codes. It also depends on factors like the load capacity of your soil and the weight of your deck. You can find a footing calculator online or contact a pro for support.

It is recommended to clean your deck once or twice a year to prevent the accumulation of dirt, debris, mold, and mildew. The ideal times for cleaning are in the spring and fall. A spring cleaning removes grime that has built up over the winter, preparing your deck for summer use. A fall cleaning washes away messes from summer activities, preventing them from setting into the wood over the winter. The exact frequency can depend on factors such as how often the deck is used, its exposure to pollen, and whether salt was used on it during the winter. Regular cleaning helps protect the wood and its finish from damage.
