Small jobs welcome

"This is my second time using TedWen and couldnâ t be more pleased to have a professional that I can trust. I had an exterior door installed and made fit into what would have been for a custom fit door. TedWen improvised and problem solved on the spot to safe me a significant amount of money not having to buy a custom size door. This was a tricky install that was done perfectly. I couldnâ t be happier with with the finished product."

"Linda & Dustin did a great job of quickly and efficiently cleaning the windows and installing the sheeting on them. We're very pleased with the outcome of the project and are very satisfied that it accomplished exactly what we were looking for: to reduce the glare and intensity of the light coming into the room. The project was well worth the cost and will provide benefits for many years into the future."

"Nate was resourceful in providing suggestions on how to seal the concrete gaps on the drive way and patio. He was able to make a quick trip to the local home depot to get the necessary materials and get the job done promptly. Would hire again!"

"I needed to have a fairly good sized hole repaired in the tub at my rental property made by the tenant putting his foot through it. Avalon Tub and Tile repaired the hole and while they could not match the color 100% due to the tub being 20 years old it is amazingly close. I was very satisfied with the work and would recommend Avalon Tub and Tile to anyone needing tub and tile repairs.

"Our house was built in 1941. It is a two-story red brick house that was coated in at least eight layers of white lead-based paint.  At the time that we bought the house, it was in a state of disrepair. The paint was peeling off in places.  The woodwork was falling apart. The wood on our screened porch needed to be replaced and the porch needed to be rescreened.  The entire house and a detached structure/shed either needed to be painted or to have the paint removed from the bricks and the woodwork and trim repainted.
My husband and I were torn between repainting the entire house or stripping the brick and repainting only the trim and woodwork.  We knew that if we striped the brick, we wanted to have a very specific strip and peel product used on the house.  We did not want to have the house sandblasted.
We solicited bids on both projects from at least three different companies. Ultimate Custom Painting's bids on both projects (repainting the entire house or striping the brick and repainting just the trim and woodwork) were higher than all of the other companies.  In spite of this fact, we decided to hire Ultimate Custom Painting to remove all of the paint from the brick using a peel and strip method, repaint all of the trim and woodwork, and paint and rescreen the porch.  The striping and painting was also done to a detached shed.  Our decision was based on a few factors.  First, after talking to Rick, I felt that he most clearly understood the project and the result that we were looking for.  Additionally, Rick also seem to be the only painter who had extensive experience using this particular peel and strip product on a project of this size and scope.  Finally,  we liked the fact that Ultimate Custom Painting is EPA-certified to deal with lead-based paint.  We decided that the extra expense was more than justified by the expertise and the quality of the work that we anticipated receiving from Ultimate Custom Painting.  We were not disappointed.
Ultimate Custom Painting's crew spent 3 to 4 weeks working on the exterior of our house. The project involved applying the peel and strip product to all of the brick, letting it sit for 24 hours, and then removing the product and the underlying paint. Once the brick was done, the trim was replaced or repaired  as needed and then painted.  Finally, the screened porch needed to be repaired, painted, and rescreened.
All striping and painting was completed beautifully.  The house looks amazing.  The crew took great pains to ensure that the application was even and consistent across the entire house. The woodwork was done beautifully.  Old shutters that had numerous layers of paint on them were each individually stripped, primed and repainted. They look like new.  The woodwork that needed to be repaired or replaced was done and then it was primed and painted.  Overall, the house looks amazing and we are constantly receiving compliments from neighbors and from people passing through the neighborhood.
The crew that worked on our house was great.  The communication was fantastic.  They never made any assumptions about what I might or might not want. Anytime a decision had to be made I was consulted.  I always knew when they were going to be working and what they would be doing.
My only negative experience with the entire project involved the carpentry work on the screened porch.  The carpenter that was used on this project was not nearly as skilled as the painters.  The work on the porch was shabby compared to the
work that Ultimate Custom Painting was doing on the rest of the house and compared to what other painting companies had told me that their carpenters would do.  For example, when the carpenter rescreened the porch he used nails that were too long and went through the walls of the porch.  His solution to this was to cut off all the nails on the inside of the porch and leave sharp metal edges over the entire interior of the porch.  When the painting crew discovered this, they did everything possible to remedy the situation including filling the holes with caulking and repainting places that were showing through.  Additionally, small pieces of decorative woodwork that should have been repaired and replaced on the porch were left off altogether.  Finally, I had a wood picnic table on the porch that was used as a work surface during the project.  This didn't bother me until the house was finished and everyone had left.  I then discovered more than six 2-inch wood screws that had been screwed down into the top of my table.  While my picnic table is not aesthetically the most beautiful table out there, it held great sentimental value to me.  I was upset to see that anything had been screwed into it without my being notified ahead of time.  More importantly, the screws had been left there for me to remove.
While I would never hesitate to use Ultimate Custom Painting again and I recommend them to to anyone who asks for a painting company, in the future I will request that a different carpenter be used or hire my own carpenter for the woodwork repairs.  Overall though, I cannot speak highly enough of this company and the work that they did.  This was an incredibly difficult project with many unknowns at the outset.  The crew handled it beautifully and my husband and I now have a exterior of our house that we love every time we enter the driveway."

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.

Estate shutters offer more energy efficiency, privacy, and light control than blinds. They provide better insulation against heat and cold, lowering your energy bills. They’re also sturdy, durable, and last much longer than blinds (up to 50 years or longer). They’re also low-maintenance and can add curb appeal to your home. The return on investment (ROI) for estate shutters is around 75%.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.
