"Tom did an awesome job painting my metal awning. I was first quoted by someone else for an outrageous price because he said he needed to build scaffolds to paint it. Tom was my second quote. He took detailed measurements, broke down all costs, and took the time to explain everything. He also did not need scaffolds. He is extremely fair with his pricing, attentive to detail, and great with his recommendations. My metal awning looks brand new. I would definitely call Tom for my next project and recommend him to someone else."

Small jobs welcome

"This is my second time using TedWen and couldnâ t be more pleased to have a professional that I can trust. I had an exterior door installed and made fit into what would have been for a custom fit door. TedWen improvised and problem solved on the spot to safe me a significant amount of money not having to buy a custom size door. This was a tricky install that was done perfectly. I couldnâ t be happier with with the finished product."

Interior Painting questions, answered by experts

Yes, many professionals use non-toxic removers and dust-free sanding techniques.

Pressure washing is the best way to remove paint that’s already peeling from certain types of vinyl and aluminum siding and some masonry. However, if the paint is largely intact and not yet peeling, or if your siding material can’t withstand the pressure, you may need to use other methods, such as chemical paint strippers, a heat gun, a paint scraper, or sanding.

Most handy homeowners can tackle removing texture from unpainted walls. Removing texture from painted walls is a bit trickier. Paint acts as a sealant, so you can’t soften the texture with water. Instead, you’ll have to add a layer of drywall compound known as a skim coat. This process is messy and takes some practice.

A traditional German schmear uses mortar, making it unsuitable for adherence to painted surfaces. Professionals recommend removing any existing paint before applying mortar. However, you can rough up the painted surface and clean it to test if the mortar will stick. Remember that the underlying paint's texture and color may affect the schmear's final appearance—so starting with a bare brick wall will ensure the ideal finish.

If you recently splashed paint on the wrong area of a wooden object, remove it with a solvent or caustic paint stripper. Some paint that has yet to dry may be removable by hand with coarse sandpaper or a plastic scraper. Another trick for removing dried-on paint is rubbing a dab of nail polish remover on the paint to remove it, but avoid touching the bare wood surface.
