"The employees that arrived to do the work were good workers. They were either unaware of the contracted work or mislead. They were not going to install the J Channel per the service agreement, and they had planned to backfill the ditch with the earth they had removed. The contract called for the ditch to be filled to surface with gravel. The installers called the office and explained that a J Channel was agreed on and someone from the office delivered it to satisfy my request. They were going to install the J Channel in segments vs one solid piece across the length of the ditch. I told them the segment seems would allow the water to get thru the J Channel and weep thru our foundation once more. They did the work as I requested but had I not been there or had I been a customer that did not know any better, this job would not have been done correctly or as agreed upon in the contract."

"We called and asked if someone could come by and provide an estimate to diagnose/repair some cracks/separation we noticed along our stairs and ceiling. We were fortunate enough to have Mitch Welliver assigned to our inspection! He was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and thorough in describing his findings and providing us with some options. While here, I asked if they also installed sump pumps and, although this last minute ask likely made his visit to your home that much longer, he handled it like a true professional and never made us feel like it was an inconvenience. I’m truly grateful for the time he spent and various pricing options he was able to provide. That flexibility goes a LONG way and we now feel confident that choosing Baker’s was the right call!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

A slow drip in an unheated basement during late fall indicates an impending pipe burst due to PA winter freeze-thaw cycles. Rust-colored water points to advanced corrosion in older galvanized pipes, leading to full failure. Furthermore, simultaneous slow drains across multiple fixtures signal significant root intrusion or scale buildup. Address these warning signs immediately with a local professional to prevent extensive damage.

Helpful?

Excavating rocky limestone bedrock for exterior plumbing work requires specialized equipment that increases project scope in Central counties. Finding asbestos pipe insulation or lead solder triggers mandatory abatement processes. Additionally, altering your fixture count requires a septic system evaluation and mandatory upgrades for rural properties. Always account for required municipal permits, tapping fees, and third-party inspection rules when planning your project.

Helpful?

Opening walls for plumbing updates in older Central homes exposes original knob-and-tube wiring, requiring immediate electrical remediation. Replacing copper pipes with non-conductive materials forces an electrician to establish a new grounding path. Furthermore, rerouting drain lines in multi-story houses impacts load-bearing walls, demanding a structural assessment. Hire certified specialists to evaluate your heating, electrical, and structural systems before modifying pipes.

Helpful?

Older homes in Central communities like Bellefonte feature full stone or brick-walled basements, making it difficult to access or reroute supply lines without masonry work. Additionally, sloped terrain and rocky limestone bedrock across the region complicate exterior plumbing work, requiring specialized excavation equipment. Assess your property for these structural barriers and consult a local professional to plan your project safely.

Helpful?

Contact your borough office to identify local building code requirements and secure necessary permits before starting any plumbing work. For rural PA properties, consult your county sewage enforcement officer to locate septic records and evaluate system capacity. Request underground utility marking to navigate rocky terrain safely. Finally, schedule exterior excavation outside of winter to avoid delays caused by deep ground frost.
