"Very friendly tech came to examine our house. He was really late, but this did not matter - lost his way. The cost was way beyond what we are willing to pay for pest control (over $1000) but we do have a fairly problematic carpenter bee problem."

Squash bugs technically aren’t invasive, as they are native to North America. However, this doesn’t mean that they aren’t incredibly destructive. The primary distinctions are in their appearance, diet, and habitat. Fungus gnats are typically darker (gray or black) with long legs and are attracted to damp soil and decaying plant matter, often living in houseplants. In contrast, fruit flies are lighter in color (tan) with shorter legs and are drawn to overripe fruit, high-fructose organic substances, and other sweet materials.

Gel bait and gel bait traps use poison to kill cockroaches, and aren’t safe to use around pets. Many gel bait traps are called “child-resistant,” but this only means that the traps are hard to rip open for children. Large pets and children are still able to swallow them. If you use gel bait, use it in areas where pets and children can’t access them, such as under a washing machine. Another option is to use glue traps, which don’t contain pesticides and are safe to use around pets.
