"I am extremely happy with AJ's service, start to finish. We initially reached out for an estimate at the beginning of 2015. A representative came to our house to explain all the different products as well as pricing and timing. I had reached out to 2 other companies before hand but was not comfortable their high pressure selling. AJ was very patient with us regarding our timing and budget. I received an estimate on the spot and was able to take my time to review and get back to them. We scheduled the work for May and was able to have 7 Windows removed and replaced in only a few hours. "I can't praise the workers highly enough. Everything was professionally done. The entire area was cleaned at the end of each day. They made every effort to minimize disruption to my use of the spaces. One day there was a wind storm and a piece of fascia on my neighbor's house came loose and was flapping against the house. The neighbors were out of town. Bob Marburger, the manager on the project was able to pull the fascia down. He did it without any consideration of how he might get paid for his time. In fact, when my neighbor asked him how much he was charging for the fix; Bob told him to forget it. That is an excellent example of the type of person Rick Horn hires. On more than one occasion, they took my garbage to the curb or did other things that helped me out but were unrelated to their project. I have already hired them for another project. Their prices are fair--not the lowest or the highest; but the quality you will get for that fair price is excellent. Rick Horn Construction gets my highest recommendation with no reservation."

"The grout between the kitchen tiles started breaking and cracking fairly quickly in multiple areas. The area between the kitchen and dining room, tile versus wood floor, had a small piece of wood that provided a rounded edge as the kitchen floor was now higher than the dining room. This nails began to come out of this piece of wood and snag sock and foot within a month. The wood coming loose may have contributed to the cracks in the tile's grout. The painter took a month to paint a 1000 square foot home. The faucet was installed improperly. The water valves for the kitchen faucet had the washers forced in to the pipes. I visually confirmed this as the plumber I had hired had to determine why I had lost water on the second and first floor spontaneously. In his opinion someone may have tightened the valves so tightly that the washers were position to eventually come loose and block the flow of water. This was an expensive lesson. Depending on the project AB is fine. Like most contractors he has multiple sites at any given time, taking the more skilled labor to the more important jobs. The end results was low quality work that requires additional expenditures to rectify. That money would have been better spent hiring higher skilled labor."

"Les promptly arrived for our scheduled estimate and was attentive to listening to our ideas, thorough and efficient in taking measurements and making calculations, and mailed us a written quote within the next few days. We hadn't moved in yet and Les was very flexible and accommodating of our schedules, able to meet us both at our old residence in Squirrel Hill and our new home in Etna.
Although it was a bit counter-intuitive, we asked for work on the floors to be done first so that they would be finished before we began to move our furniture. Our schedule was rather tight and Jim aka Mr. Sandman and his staff worked quickly and diligently. Our house is an older one without central air and it was especially impressive to see how hard everyone was working despite the 80-90 degree summer weather. Jim came to examine our floors and was very thorough in explaining the characteristics of our floor and how he was able to ascertain that it was white oak. We settled on a matte, light honey-colored finish to highlight the quality of the wood. The team removed our radiator covers and moved the piano that our house inherited (no small feat!) and was also able to patch in floor boards to fill in a gap where there had once been a banister. In all, a large living room, a large dining room, stair treads, small landing, and larger second floor landing were refinished flawlessly.
In the meantime, the crown molding that we had custom made to match the original molding was finished and Les offered to pick it up for us so that it would save us a trip out. Les' two employees worked quickly and thoroughly in removing the old, non-matching molding and cutting and installing the new pieces. The new pieces were indistinguishable from the old once we painted them and the workers took great care to not harm the new floor.
We thought that we would have to sister in some new floor beams to strengthen the floor under the bathroom but Les' workman informed us that structurally, the floor was sound, and there was no need to perform any repair. We certainly appreciated his honesty! Because we were able to save money by not doing that project. we asked Les to do some plaster repairs for us--we had a ceiling in the attic that needed to be mudded because of moisture coming in from the roof,several holes that we had inherited from the previous owner, and several more that were made by our electrician. All of these were fixed in a careful and efficient manner. We were especially impressed with the repairs on the ceiling where swirls in the plaster had to be matched. After a layer of primer and paint, those repairs too, were seamless.
Overall, we were very impressed with Commonwealth's professionalism and commitment to doing good work at a fair price. Les checked in regularly to ensure that the work was going well and that we were satisfied. He was easy to reach and all of his employees were pleasant, competent gentlemen. The scope and type of work we needed shifted during the project and I was most impressed with how Les was able to adapt to our changing needs. Our needs and budget were modest and I'm sure there are more lucrative projects out there, but Les always made us feel like our projects and our satisfaction was a priority to him and Commonwealth. It was our first experience working with a contractor and doing any home renovations and this was certainly a good one. We'll be happy to call on Commonwealth in the future for our next big projects.

Their receptionist Julie was extremely helpful to me during the long delay and kept in touch with me but I could not get the same response from the scheduling person named Becky."
