- Kosta Painting & Refinishing LLCRecommend you supervise the cleaning; I asked for bleach solution before pressure washing as we get a lot of soot and black mold. The pressure washing was fine on two sides, but after I left to mow grass the cleaner hit the logs too hard removing some finish down to bare wood. Kosta recovered when doing the staining (I supplied stain and log caulk) with very professional masking of all windows, both garage doors, lights and electric outlets followed by spray application of stain then back brushing. Multiple coats were applied to bare spots. Two coats were applied to the south (sun) facing side at my request. The painting crew was professional, respectful and diligent. Kosta sent 2 additional painters to complete the job, as promised, by dark. Mr. Kosta made sure my job was completed before we left on vacation, and he really takes care of his repeat customers (they stained my cabin in 2015). I recommend them to anyone needing painting or staining
- Kosta Painting & Refinishing LLCWe are tough customers; we needed an overdue log cleaning and re-staining of our Hochstetler milled pine log cabin. Mr. Kosta gave us a competitive estimate, and even agreed to subtract my already-purchased materials from the bid (Sikkens CETOL log stain and Log Caulk). The Kosta crew, Steve and Joe, were very diligent in pressure washing and using enviro-friendly detergent in the cleaning phase. Here's the tough customer part; our logs were dirty and black mold spotted, and only about a third of the dirt came off. Staining over this condition would make it permanent. I took out a hand sprayer with a 1/3 bleach-to-water solution, sprayed a section, and the logs brightened to a like-new honey gold. A quick photo and e-mail to Kosta supervisor Brian, and Brian agreed to send the crew again for a re-treat, spray and pressure wash. The crew came back another day and using bleach solution in a pump sprayer the cleanup was MUCH better. It was also a warm but rainy day and the poor guys looked like highly professional, but drowned rats by day's end. After about a two week drying period, Steve and Joe came back to calk log cracks and seams, mask off windows, and spray and back-brush the Sikkens oil-base stain. They used a professional pump to a hose spray head which made the application quick, and the back brush evened the finish. It's a two story cabin, and they did a great job on the eaves and dormers. They used the NBS-30 carpenter bee repellent I purchased, mixed 4 oz to each gallon of stain, so I'm anxious to see if there's less of a problem with bees this summer. (Those with logs or wood siding know those boring bees can be pests.) I would recommend Mr. Kosta and his crew to anyone considering cabin or deck staining. We continue to receive compliments on the cabin finish

"This review is long overdue which is unfair to Luke and his employees. The quality and craftsmanship was the best I have ever experienced. From the beginning of the quote process to the final payment I have the highest respect for the work done by Luke and the three gentlemen who worked on my project. The project was replacing old aluminum siding with individual polymer cedar look shakes. Their attention to detail was fantastic and the new look still blows us away. The shakes we chose came in three shades and eight widths and Luke and crew installed them in a random fashion which mimicked real cedar shakes. It has almost been a year and everything is still perfect. I have no complaints or criticisms and would highly recommend him for whatever your needs. You will not find a better person for quality work at a reasonable price.

"The cons: Punctuality. Day 1. They called me an hour after they were supposed to be there because the Foreman had a family issue. OK, I understand. Day 2. Perfectly Sunny Day, 88 degrees. They no-called, no-showed. When I called them, they cancelled due to the weather. Then the Foreman calls me personally to tell me that they didn't get the parts in. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! The pros: The job was done right the first time. It's been about 6 months with a few heavy storms and some snow, and there have been no leaks or other issues. Also, the exhaust pipe came out of the house on one of the seams, and they had trouble get the boot to look nice, but they worked until I was satisfied. I will take a punctuality issue over a leaky roof any day :-) Over all, Job Well Done!!!
