You can paint directly on laminate surfaces. However, the preparation steps generally determine how long the paint will last and the finish quality. Laminate has a very slick surface that discourages things like grease, oil, dirt, and other substances from sticking to it. While that's great for staying clean, the slick surface also makes it difficult for paint to stick without at least some prep work.

Spraying and brushing both can lead to beautiful, evenly painted window shutters. Spraying is faster and easier, but it brings in an added cost, as paint sprayers are around $100 to buy or $40 per day to rent. If price is a determining factor, you can use a brush and rest assured that the results will be good nonetheless.

If you decide to paint over wallpaper, it’s important to prep the surface with an oil- or shellac-based primer. This helps prevent moisture from creating bubbles loosening the adhesive. Stucco by itself is durable, but even paint made for harsh environmental conditions requires regular maintenance and upkeep. In other words, repaint your stucco every five to 10 years, depending on its current condition. Trust your senses. If it looks fine, it probably is fine. If it looks cracked and worn down, give it a new coat.
