We have used University Painters on 4 separate occasions now and have ALWAYS been EXTREMELY satisfied. Sara, Miguel, and their entire crew are very professional, accommodating to our individual needs, and very friendly and helpful. From picking out paint colors to matching kitchen cabinet handles, I can always count on help and advice from them to get the job done beautifully and in a timely manner. We LOVE working with University Painters and will definitely use them again when we are ready for our next house project. They do so much more than paint!

Richard M. was great at scheduling and pricing. The team that did the painting was sub-par, several spots were missed, clean-up was not done, painters tape was left on trim work. new cabinets were scuffed and paint was not removed from new appliances. No receipt was made available to me after final payment. I contacted Richard M. An offer was made to come back but I did not feel comfortable having that crew in my home after sharing my experience with the scheduler. I feel a partial refund is warranted. Never again!

It went well. They were always prompt. He came to give the estimate, and explained exactly what they were going to do. They were very fast, and clean. I only found one place that needed a touch up, but they came back right away to fix that. It still looks good 2 years later.

Overall it went well and as originally quoted.
They were not the most competitive quote, but they were able to do the work when I needed them and at a price I could still afford. After all, it helps to have the full back up of a company that specializes in painting, including having a professional supervisors taking care of the details for you. I actually asked them to quote me for painting my deck as well once the job started, and their supervisor was decent enough to indicate that I should wait until after the winter as it would be more convenient time to do the job for me.

It was excellent from beginning to completion. Painters were professional, courteous and did a great job--would have them back in a heartbeat. I normally do not like contractors in my house by they were a pleasure to have--quiet, e3xceptionally clean and neat and careful to return items to where they were...

It all started off well. The estimator (Dennis I think) came on time, gave a quote, described the service and I was pleased enough...and Angie's list rating was good enough... that I didn't get another quote. He said there would be one to two painters coming to paint the shutters (black) and scrape and paint the trim (there was an obvious bubble in the paint above the door) which they would color match. Since it was exterior work I did not need to be home. The day of the appointment came and went. It was a little cold that day (not prohibitively, but I was giving the benefit of doubt.) After a couple of very nice days, I called to find out where the painters were and the woman who answered the phone said she didn't realize the painters hadn't been out to do the job. We scheduled another day and I confirmed on the phone the service: paint the shutter and door, scrape and paint with color matched paint the door trim. On the 2nd schedule appointment, two painters showed up. I think it was a Saturday so I was home. They were pleasant enough. They started right away on the door and shutters. When they alerted me they were finished, I came out to find they hadn't painted the trim. They didn't know that was part of the job and asked if I had the matching pain. (Yes, really) Since I happened to have a partly used quart can of the trim color, I dug it out of the basement and gave it to them. I could not stay until they finished. When I returned back home, they had painted over the large air bubble with obviously no scraping having been done. I did not attempt to have them rectify the job because I didn't want to deal with them again, since it had been problematic from step two. I think this speaks for itself to explain my rating. I will not use them again.

Our entry way had a very poorly done textured surface on the walls. I'm a do-it-yourselfer and normally I would have taken care of this myself but it's open all the way up to the second floor ceiling so this was an area requiring tall ladders on and over stairs, and a LOT of skimming/sanding - so I decided to hire it out.
The crew was reasonable, worked quickly and did an OK job. for the size of the area, I'm glad I had them do it and not me. However, I'm a perfectionist. There are areas here and there where you can see a raised lip from the old texture because they didn't knock it down enough, or they didn't put enough skim coat over top. But they are very slight and you have to look for them. Specifically a square around the main set of 4 light switches next to the front door where it needs a bit more spackle. If you've ever spackled before, sometimes it VERY hard to see the little imperfections of what needs a little more TLC until after a coat of paint goes up. I think they finished with the spackle, did a good job, did the first coat of paint, and then instead of fixing the few little things the fresh coat of paint showed, they figured it was good enough and kept painting.
Again, I am a perfectionist, and overall, the service was done very well, it's just these few very tiny things that bug me. I'm going to fix the spackle round the light switches myself at some point because it bothers me, but I have a lot of other projects going on and after I spackle it I'm going to have to paint it and it's a pain for such a small fix. So I'm going to wait until I have to paint the wall again for some other reason (like if the kids mess up the wall somehow).
As for their actual painting job (spackle skim coat aside), they did a very good job. Again, worked quickly but didn't rush it. They were able to hand brush into the corners without needing to tape off areas showing a steady hand. I need to use tape.
If I needed a large area painted again that required ladders I didn't have or other safety concerns - I might use them again. If I had another skim coat job, probably not. I'm sure there are other contractors out there that are more perfectionist like me.
To give you an idea, when my wife and I paint a bedroom, it takes us a month or more. I start by finding every single imperfection in the walls and ceiling and spackling those. If there are any nail heads popping out of the drywall, I remove the nails, replace with screws and again spackle that. Depending on the condition of the baseboards, we have actually removed them from the walls, sanded them and repainted them while not on the walls. Then fix the walls some more that tore by removing the calked baseboards. Then we paint finally paint the ceiling first (we even remove the ceiling fixtures we can paint UNDER them, not AROUND them). And after a couple coats, we tape off the ceiling and paint the walls (removing all outlet and switch covers). After the walls are done, we reinstall the baseboards. I replace any outlets and switches that have yellowed over time. By the time we are done "painting" a room, it looks as though it was just built yesterday. So take my review as a HIGHLY critical person.
If you want a reasonable job done by nice people in a good time frame, give these guys a try. If you want brand spankin' new absolute perfection, try someone else first.

Andrew, the sales guy, was profession and very responsive by email. Also, his crew was very professional and did an excellent job. Not only did they complete the painting per the quote, they also did some miracle work on some door mouldings, which had rotted significantly due to their exposure to the elements. Lastly, I would use them again, given the quality of their work and fair price.

We had a lot of external and internal sprucing up to be done before we put our house up for sale. Everything went smoothly, from the estimate to the actual completion of work. They also power washed, repaired, and re-stained the deck. I actually added a few more things that weren't on the estimate and they didn't charge me extra.

The painters where good. The sales person, Matt, is full of attitude and did not disclose there will be a 3% charge for credit card payments. When confronted Matt, he was full of attitude and had a holier than thou attitude. Too bad how an unprofessional sales person can ruin an otherwise decent experience.

The painting went fine, the clean up however left a little bit to be desired. I had a couple of estimates and their price was the best.

This was a very good outcome for the price. It was higher than other estimates. We had more confidence in these guys with written guarantees and estimates. Their plaster repair of cracks, nail pops, dents, and separated seams was incredible. Extensive caulking of gaps in molding--all trim & molding everywhere--was outstanding. They fixed anything they found with great detail and skill--no limit of fixes. That was worth the higher price. The painting itself and clean-up was good. The foreman, Marco, was very attentive and responded to issues and points of concern. The franchise owner, Sara, came out on day 4 to make sure we were satisfied. One bit of advice. Don't forget the estimator is a salesman, so they always agree and say "yes." Be sure to read the hand written description of work. Changing from existing color costs more, even to bright white trim currently builders beige trim--it's a higher price. I paid an up charge. Doors cost extra, and I picked the exterior ones and garage.

A problem arose during the job about parts of the house that were painted that were not included in the initial quote. I spoke to the owner and he was very fair about the price and easy to work with. Will use them again because they care about the job they do and the customer's satisfaction.
