"Michael's Brick Pointing tackled a very challenging job outside our Center City, 3 story home.  The estimate was competitively priced.  Michael listened to our description of our unique water problems, and our particular masonry/stucco deterioration problems, and the very challenging solutions I felt were needed.
Instead of forcing a one-size-fits-all solution, he lended his expertise and creativity and together we came up with a workable, intuitive plan to solve a multivariable problem.  This involved accessing two different neighbors' yards, erecting scaffolding, working around inclement weather, and coming up with some solutions as new issues were discovered.
The crew was considerate, respectful to my wife and daughter when I was away, always willing to educate us about the process, and absolutely skilled and professional.  We had a great result with their work so far, and I recommend them without reservation.

"Anthony and his team did a rather large job and repointed and waterproofed all bricks on our house and chimney, replaced a few spalled bricks and repointed other masonry. It was an easy process from the quote to scheduling and completing the work. It only took a few days, and the results are quite impressive, for a reasonable price. Anthony stands behind his work and makes sure itâ s completed to the customerâ s satisfaction. I highly recommend him."

"Mike and his crew took three days for this job which requires excavation, ground preparation, regrading, concreting in a six-footer berm of cobblestones, paving, sealing, and seeding of affected lawn. They came early, began promptly when township ordinances permitted, and worked as an efficient, highly coordinated team. They always consulted us for our opinions as the project went on to make sure that each step met our approval. Health professionals should show such ongoing concern and bedside manner. We were extremely satisfied."

"I was extremely impressed with the work Atila and his crew performed. He kept me informed on each step of the process and everyone was extremely nice and respectful. I love the color and pattern of the stamped concrete. They are extremely knowledgeable about concrete and meticulous in their work! I honestly can't say enough good things and look forward to using them again for our porch and walkway."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

The longevity of masonry work in PA relies heavily on mortar compatibility. Historic homes require natural lime mortars, as harder modern cements cause surrounding brick to crack. Managing freeze-thaw cycles by curing materials before the first frost is essential. Additionally, address poor drainage around your foundation and ensure all structural repairs comply with local building codes to prevent future deterioration.

Helpful?

Schedule masonry work after a post-winter inspection reveals new cracks, spalled brick faces, or deteriorated joints. In Ardmore, frequent freeze-thaw cycles and heavy annual precipitation accelerate these issues. Look for recurring white salt deposits, horizontal cracking, or mortar joints recessed more than a quarter inch. Address these visible warning signs promptly before the next winter season to protect your home.

Helpful?

For masonry work on older homes in Ardmore, prioritize supplies for repointing aged lime-based mortar joints. Using modern cement on historic fieldstone or brick causes severe damage. Keep crack gauges on hand to monitor seasonal movement caused by frequent freeze-thaw cycles. You should also maintain proper documentation tools, as local historic district regulations dictate specific materials and techniques for repairs.

Helpful?

Delaying minor masonry work allows small issues to escalate quickly. Stair-step cracking indicates differential settlement, while horizontal basement cracks warn of dangerous lateral soil pressure. In Ardmore, spalling brick faces and cracked chimney crowns rapidly worsen during freeze-thaw cycles, turning minor damage into full structural failures. Inspect for hidden mortar erosion below ground level to prevent severe foundation compromise.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work significantly improves thermal comfort in historic PA homes. Sealing deteriorated mortar joints blocks cold winter drafts and humid summer air from entering solid masonry walls. Repairing fieldstone foundations directly reduces basement dampness and lowers interior mold risks. Restoring your chimney also prevents moisture intrusion and ensures safe, functional use of your fireplace throughout the colder months.
