"Our home is about 100 years old and has a stone foundation. Water has been an issue in the basement for far longer than we have owned the home. In three days '58 Foundations installed a drain, pump and sealed the walls. It has been six months and there has been absolutely no signs of water or other moisture in the basement. We are extremely happy with the service they provided."

"Overall; it went well until the first driving rain which allowed water into the system. Had asked them about the pipe allowing water in and how that would affect the fan. They told me they warrantied their work and to not worry. They also said a drain hose would not allow water to bother the fan. For two weeks my readings had dropped to below 2 which is half the national average for needing the remediation (called them and said thank you). Then the rain hit and it has sounded sickly ever since without a break. For the first couple months; it sounded like someone threw in ball bearings to that fan. But since has just sounded sickly. Also have a radon of around 20; which is very unsatisfactory. I called them and told them the meter measuring inches of water equalized and I'm calling to have them come over to fix it. I asked if they had put enough sealant around the pipes. They said yes; and I looked and could find no problems with penetrations in floor being bad. He never came back over. I called several weeks later and left a message. No call back. Called a third time and no call back. I called the state radiation protection supervisor and she tried to get a hold of them. First they said they had the flu and would get back to her. They never called me. My advice to anyone dealing with radiation mitigation; would be not to use these people. I would also suggest they not move to Western Pennsylvania for two reasons. One is the pollution like radon which is abundant. Unless you want your kids to have lung cancer and other problems. They will never mention it to you before you move here. Most never find out. My dog had lung cancer after a few years; I have lung problems after a few years... my neighbor died of lung cancer a few years ago... this is a real issue people. Also, the state does not have authority to do much in this state apparently. I've also noticed many discrepancies with the state in other area's but that is not what we are talking about today. Just choose wisely. I've not mitigated my radon; nor have I had any real recourse; which is normal in this state. As is the level of experience in Western Pa. As it relates to national levels. Oh, if you do get sick here in western pa; you will likely die from the hospitals and staff here; though Pittsburgh has some good doctors; the rest of western pa is like going back 50 years in time; though they do well hiding that fact on outcomes. So your radon journey will be bad form cradle to grave in Western Pa. I've lost my time and money messing with this mitigation service. Found that the drain was installed incorrectly and made a p-trap just below the fan. This is the source of the problem ( I believe). Will have to be done over. Perhaps by myself when it cools down."

Inspection firm that specializes in residential and small commercial inspections. We can evaluate indoor air quality, water quality, test and remediate mold, measure and mitigate radon, as well as sample for the presence of lead or asbestos.

"If you’re looking to get any type of inspection or home services then look no further. I recently became a customer of Justin Ake after trying to get my soon to be home inspected. Rick was dispatched to the property and went above and beyond, both explaining the inspection process and showing me key points in the houses plumping and drainage systems. As well as providing information on other tests and services the company performs. I don’t normally write reviews, but I have to say this is one business that takes pride in their trade."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Radon is the number one non-smoking cause of lung cancer in the United States, but it can cause some other concerning side effects in the meantime. If you have a raspy voice, chest pains, trouble breathing, difficulty swallowing, or any of the above, don’t hesitate to perform radon testing and install a mitigation system as soon as possible.

Professional radon detection involves placing test kits in the lowest lived-in level of the house for a period, usually 48 hours to several months, followed by lab analysis of collected data.

Yes, radon testing is absolutely necessary if you suspect the presence of this hazardous gas, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends testing for all homes in the country. Radon is a pervasive natural gas that can leak through your home’s foundation and seep into the living areas. Unfortunately, the gas is highly carcinogenic and is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon testing is crucial for keeping you and your family safe from harm, so hire a radon mitigation specialist to test your home if you suspect its presence in your home.

It is worthwhile to get radon testing done, especially if you haven’t in the past and don’t have active radon monitoring set up in your home. According to the American Lung Association, radon is a potential issue in all states, and testing is the best way to determine if it’s a current problem in your home. Radon testing includes professional tests that determine ongoing radon levels in your property, and it usually includes a mitigation protocol to help you decide what measures to take to protect your home and household members.

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to remediate radon yourself. While a radon reduction professional can make the biggest impact in your home, you can make efforts to improve radon levels on your own by sealing cracks, increasing ventilation, and testing for radon regularly.
