"Replaced deteriorated exterior siding where needed, installed several new double pane windows, replaced old carpeting with new hardwood floors, coordinated subcontractors for electrical repairs and interior house painting. All work was done professionally and to our satisfaction. Very impressed with Cody's quality management. He inspected all work by his team as well as the subcontractors to verify that the work was done correctly and to his satisfaction. Composite siding is very resistant to warping that can affect some other sidings. Because of its composition, this siding doesn’t have the same risks of moisture damage that can cause rotting, buckling, and warping. Composite material doesn’t warp in high temperatures the way some kinds of vinyl siding can.

That said, composite siding is not entirely immune from moisture damage. It should still be properly installed so that moisture can properly drain from behind the siding, and protected by eaves and clean gutter so the siding doesn’t get repeatedly soaked by rain, which could lead to damage.

The best types of siding to withstand hail are fiber cement siding and engineered wood siding. Fiber cement siding is known for impact resistance, while some brands of engineered wood siding can withstand hail as big as 1 and 3/4 inches with no marks. Vinyl and aluminum siding are the most susceptible to hail.

Stucco is considered a type of cladding because it includes a built-in ventilation layer, a weatherproof membrane beneath that, and, often, a layer of insulation to improve building efficiency. The multiple layers of stucco—the scratch coat, the brown coat, and the finish coat—also create a more complex building membrane, so it’s more accurate to call it cladding. However, homeowners and contractors alike refer to stucco as siding.

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

Hail as small as 3/4 inch (about the size of a penny) can cause damage to your siding. When hail reaches 1 inch in size, you can expect to see more cracks, chips, and holes, and hail that’s 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 inches around will cause significant damage. If you see hail that’s 1 and 1/2 inches to 2 inches or more in size, the damage is likely to be extensive and possibly even dangerous.
