"In the early Spring of 2022 we hired Millspaugh to build a 10X24 feet porch over a deck. They gave us a bid which seemed reasonable, and began work shortly thereafter. We were very pleased with all aspects of their work. They were prompt, exactly on budget, on schedule, and very nice people with whom to deal. We highly recommend their services! Sincerely, Dr. J. "Found Sentri on Angi. Jeanette and Violet were very pleasant and efficient in getting a contractor to me in the time frame needed. The contractor was excellent and the roof looks great! I would definitely work with them again if I had additional projects."

I recently left the union as a journeyman carpenter and superintendent. I built custom homes in my 20’s after graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Before college I worked in all phases of construction from concrete and framing to finish work. I have a well rounded understanding of building and am passionate about what I do and the quality of work I provide. In my personal life I am led by Jesus. I enjoy running several times a week and working out in my home gym. My goals are to provide value to my clients and give back to my community.

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

You don’t need a cutting board. In fact, cutting is the original purpose of butcher block countertops. That said, wood is porous and can harbor germs. You’ll need to clean your countertop thoroughly after use. Knives can also scratch the surface. This adds to the patina of the wood, but not everyone likes the look—in which case, you may want to use a cutting board.

Rustic and modern farmhouse styles are currently the most popular. These include rustic and antique furniture, muted colors, clean lines, eclectic decor, and natural materials. Some other popular farmhouse styles include the following:

  • Coastal farmhouse: Creates a lighter, airier feel with soft colors and blue palettes, along with gold

  • Colonial farmhouse: Focuses on real antique furniture and decor

  • French farmhouse: Leans on French country architecture and design by including marble and lighter-colored metals, like zinc

  • Industrial farmhouse: Includes thick, chunky furniture and dark metals

  • Scandinavian farmhouse: Usually includes lighter wood colors and more refined furniture

It is not recommended to cut or drill into LVL (laminated veneer lumber) beams. As major structural components of a home, their composite structure can be compromised by alterations, which can weaken them and lead to cracking over time. If you must make modifications to an LVL beam, it is crucial to consult a structural engineer or general contractor first. A professional can advise on whether it's safe and provide specifics on the appropriate bit size, depth, and directionality for any necessary drilling.

Professionals ensure precise alignment and durability, critical for structural integrity.

Many contractors prefer checks because they’re easy to track and have no associated fees. However, many also accept credit cards (though they might add a fee to cover their processing costs).
