Barrett's has an amazing stock and variety. It is a family-owned enterprise and everyone is extremely helpful without just trying to sell. When we arrived, a man greeted us and asked what we were looking for. When he heard that we we needed to cover small areas, he promptly suggested that if we were budget-minded, we might want to look at the remnants in the basement. Just what we needed. We are preparing to sell our house and we are working on making it as perfect as possible. It was lunch time, so a young man took over and we went downstairs. I was the only customer at that point. This young man looked at my samples and colors and immediately started looking, while I prowled around looking at the many many rolls. In short order, he showed me something that was perfect for the bathroom. Then he began to look for something for the second room. That was harder, but both he and I kept looking for a long time. The young man never got bored and kept looking, every now and then calling that he might have found something. I have never had such an enthusiastic person help me. After a long time I settled on something. Mr. Barrett gave me an excellent price, and the rolls fit into our car. I wouldn't go anywhere else after finding Barrett's. Lots of samples, helpful honest knowledgeable people, and great prices. A great place for decorators and homeowners. They had been notified of which parts were to be painted and which parts not painted. Since they weren't masked, those elements got paint on them as a result of overspray when the contractor sprayed the body of the house, and had to be sanded by the homeowner. The trim was masked very poorly in places, and the contractor had to re-prime and paint the trim white after painting the body of the house in a dark color.
Lead Paint mishandling: This contractor was selected in part (over a less-expensive bid) because they were licensed to dispose of lead paint. The contractor seemed unaware and initially denied that lead paint was present on the house, even though the homeowner had an independent consultant test for lead paint who found some evident, and the painters had been notified of such. The homeowner notified the contractor that there were 5 places on the house where lead paint was present. The contractor revealed at that time that they had only tested ONE window frame at the front and the body of the house for lead, despite that many of the door and window frames were obviously painted at different times in the home's age. The independent consultant tested EVERY window and door, because they were all painted at different times. For the safety of Hanson's crew, the homeowner asked if they were taking lead paint bearing doors, window frames, and shutters off the house and painting them at a separate location, or painting onsite and collecting lead paint chips. Hanson Co. then claimed there WAS no lead paint present, which was patently false. Even after being notified of the presence of lead paint on a pair of shutters, Hanson failed to scrape and collect the shutters, and only painted the front sides, not even bothering to CLEAN the back sides. They then asked the homeowner to remount the shutters themselves. Paint flakes: The painters left many paint flakes on the ground, which precipitated a home loan appraiser having to make a return trip after paint flakes were cleaned up. Improper cleanup: The painters took off house numbers, shutters, and other miscellaneous decor from the exterior of the house which they never offered to put back up. The area where they staged work materials was left disorganized and dirty. When they were finally "finished," the homeowner spent many hours cleaning up after them, because many items that were removed from or moved away from the house were not put back as they were found. Breakage: Some yard decorations were broken by the painters. While this is a minor problem, they didn't notify home owner of breakage, offer to replace or repair, or even give a simple apology. Contract details: Although painters' contract included the house and all trim, many pieces, such as decorative porch railings, a heat-pump cover, and the back of shutters were never painted. Homeowner had to paint these pieces herself. Security: When painting, on several occasions the painters propped doors/windows open to allow frames and doors/window sashes to dry, worked from 7 am to 1 pm, and then left without notifying homeowner or real estate agent that house was unlocked and open. I have worked with Sherri on and off for years (as my layoffs warranted). She IS a motivator (at least the reviewer got that right). But somewhere along the line, you misunderstood Sherri's role in helping you. IT IS NOT SHERRI'S RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND YOU A JOB. Sherri prepares YOU to find YOUR job. She helps YOU set goals. She helps YOU figure out what worked or didn't work for you in past jobs so YOU can identify strategies you might need to change. She offers a variety of workshops that help you figure all this out. And, yes, her clients are from a broad spectrum of backgrounds (isn't that what makes life interesting?). If your intention was to meet with a group of people and quot;in a very defined professionand quot;, why didn't you find a coach that specifies in THAT profession? And last, but not least, Sherri PROVIDES NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES for you to meet people who might be able to help you. Sherri strongly encourages NETWORKING, because you never know who you might meet that might know somebody who knows somebody who might have a connection. Ever heard of six degrees of separation? When you sign up with Sherri to work with her, it's just that - you work TOGETHER to prepare yourself for the job hunt. She DOES NOT look for jobs for you. She helps you prepare for the hunt. She helps you customize your resume to positions that YOU identify of interest. She helps you write cover letters that get attention and score the initial phone call from an employer. She helps you prepare for phone interviews, in person interviews, second interviews, and landing the job. And her NETWORKING MEETINGS (not PARTIES) are avenues for you to brainstorm, share, commiserate, and celebrate the pitfalls and triumphs of a job search. Being unemployed (or in transition) or looking for something different is hard, especially in these times. That's why people seek out the help of a Career Coach. Sherri is tough. She expects you to live up to your part of the bargain when you sign up with her. That means you need to do the research, do the work make the calls, write the letters, customize multiple resumes, network and anything else she suggests because SHE IS THE EXPERT! You mentioned PARTIES (perhaps you are anti-social and that's why and quot;partiesand quot; bother you). YES, Sherri and her husband DO open their home a couple times a year for NETWORKING POTLUCK PARTIES. These are usually HUGE events where 80-100 people (HER CLIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES) show up to socialize, eat and enjoy time together; it's a time of camaraderie, because let's face it, at the Monday night NETWORKING EVENTS, Sherri is ALL ABOUT SETTING GOALS AND GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS. Monday night NETWORING EVENTS are NOT parties, so get off your high horse about it. If you and quot;could not make a connection with someone that would be able to further my career or make a transitionand quot;, then YOU WEREN'T TRYING. I'm willing to bet you were one of those people who sat on a chair or sofa and didn't speak to anybody in the group; I'm sure people tried, but you'd already made up your mind that these people weren't going to help you. You mention and quot; Also, the months seemed to be going by quickly with no progress - too slow of a job search method for someone out of work. She may be perfect for some, but not for me.and quot; The majority of folks who become clients of Sherri's are and quot;out of workand quot;, either by choice or usually by force (lay offs). It's not a game and Sherri doesn't play games. IT. IS. HARD. WORK. TO. FIND. WORK. Get it? And, yes, there are a lot of emails that go out from this group and you are expected to read the emails (because, hey, you're unemployed, so what else are you doing?) and, again, it's about NETWORKING and maybe you couldn't make a connection with someone that would be able to further YOUR career, but if you had participated actively maybe YOU could have helped someone else. GEE! IMAGINE THAT! Bottom line, Sherri is worth every single penny she is paid. She has been in the business a long time. She's got the resources. She's got the experience. She's got the NETWORK. She's tough. She expects you to do your homework and if you don't, she's going to kick your butt and maybe yell at you or fuss at you. But that's why YOU HIRED HER! Rock on Sherri! I've been an SC customer for 7-8 years, and have had no complaints in those areas that I graded "A." Price has sometimes been a concern, most of all during the last routine maintenance visit, when I also had a thermostat replaced. The SC tech said they only carry one model on their trucks, a Honeywell unit that has their name on the front cover. This models retails for about $55, which of course is not what SC pays for it. Any guesses about the total installed cost? $318, and that's with my "Gold" service contract membership discount.
I realize the SC, like any business, must charge for parts, materials, labor, overhead and profit, but this installation happened during a pre-paid service call, and so did not require a second trip. Installing the thermostat , testing it, and programming it took less than 30 minutes. I'm not in the business so I don't know how much of the $318 was for labor, but any amount over about $50 was excessive.
I also realize that SC will stand behind the unit's 5 year warranty, but in the unlikely event that as many as 3 replacements are needed during that time, SC will still make an adequate, if not generous, profit. I've not complained about pricing in the past because I don't know the cost of HVAC parts, but this time I had access to the retail cost of a consumer item. If SC is overcharging for the simple installation of a thermostat, I have to be concerned about their pricing for replacing parts whose cost can't be so easily determined."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ca/brea/service-champions-plumbing%2C-heating-and-ac-reviews-193020.htm"},"position":7},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Sound Window & Gutter Cleaning","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"OR","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Andrew S."},"reviewBody":"Matt does a super job for a fair price. FAQs for patio cover service projects in The Dalles, OR
While the terms deck and porch are often used interchangeably, they are two distinct home features. Porches offer a roof that protects from the elements when coming and going from the house. Generally, porches are on the front of your home. On the other hand, decks are generally built in the backyard of a home and offer no roof or protection from the elements, like rain or snow. Porches typically require less maintenance and upkeep thanks to the roof, but both features require regular cleaning and repairs to maintain good condition.
The cost of an awning is $1,400 to $4,400 on average. However, this cost could be as low as $100 or as high as $7,500, depending on a few factors. The type of awning you choose, the size you need, and your location all affect your overall cost.
For example, portable awnings you can put up and take down yourself range from $100 to $400, whereas motorized awnings are more luxurious and cost between $2,000 and $3,500.
The cost to build a deck is $8,025 on average. However, this cost can range anywhere from $1,500 to $22,000, depending on multiple factors, such as size, materials, and deck type. You can expect to pay $30 to $60 per square foot when building a new deck.
Cedar decks are often the most cost-effective option, ranging from $4 to $9per square foot for materials. However, pressure-treated decking, which is resistant to rot, is more expensive, ranging from $15 to $25 per square foot for materials.
Awnings are either fixed or retractable and can be paired with a variety of cover materials. Fixed awnings are a permanent outdoor feature of a building. These are highly durable and require ongoing maintenance. Once installed, the position of this awning cannot be changed.
Retractable awnings are more popular than fixed awnings since the cover can open and close. This allows homeowners to open and close the awning, depending on the weather. When not in use, it can be closed to allow for extra space.
Besides the type of awning, you’ll need to choose the type of cover. Your awning installation professional will review your options with you, including availability and costs. The types of covers you can choose from include:
Wood, which is durable but can be damaged easily by rainwater and fire
Cotton offers flexibility, weatherproofing, and easy cleaning
Canvas is highly durable and is a good choice for retractable awnings
Metal is sturdy but is prone to rust
Polyester is easy to clean and is a more breathable option
Polycarbonate is highly resistant to UV rays and is difficult to damage
