"Just moved into a very old home and needed a kitchen sink/drain backup cleared. Darin and son were first to return my call. The solution to a very deteriorated cast iron pipe connect was an elegant PVC bi-pass in basement with an easily accessible cleanout under the sink (I'll probably not need the cleanout but nice touch for down the road). The work was completed same day within reasonable time. Charges reflected the materials and quality of work. It ended up being less than I expected. I'm sure this won't be my last plumbing issue with an older home and I'm happy to say I have a plumber who clearly has the years of experience I can trust. I have a list of low priority issues I will be using them again for soon. Eagle NW team is professional and a pleasure to work with."

"Ron and his crew did a great job. He started when he said he would and did a thorough job. Called for the pump truck to remove contamination, added a clean out where there wasn't one, and even brought gravel to fill in the area under house. The helpers were great as well. Thank you."

This depends on the location of the blockage. If the blockage is in your home’s system, anywhere in the system, it is your responsibility as a homeowner. Blockages seldom happen because of items or buildup coming from the city, which means it originates in the home. In some cases, operating a snake can damage your drain and pipes. This depends on the overall condition of your pipes and how gently you operate the auger. For instance, older galvanized pipes covered in zinc are susceptible to scratches when using a drain snake. Additionally, it’s common for newbies to apply too much force when extending the snake, leading to scratches and related damage. You can also crack the porcelain with an electric auger if you’re snaking a toilet drain. If you’re using a manual snake or auger, the risk is minimal.

When you put baking soda and vinegar down the drain, they chemically react and help break down clogs. It’s not going to work for every type of clog, however. For example, it’s not the best way to get rid of grease buildup. For grease, you should try boiling water and white vinegar instead.

There are a few ways to unclog a toilet without a plunger. Break up the clog with homemade solutions containing soap, vinegar, and baking soda, or simply let hot water spend some time in the drain. You can also use a two-liter soda bottle filled with water to push pressurized water into the pipe to dislodge the debris (see the steps above).

Your sewer line can get grimy quickly. To prevent sludge buildup in your sewer line, pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda down each drain in your home once a month. After about 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.

Some plumbers recommend 3/4 cup of bleach instead to clean any germs and bacteria that may build up in your sewer line. But this won’t break down any active clogs, and it cannot be combined with vinegar, as the mixture will create a toxic, hazardous gas.
