"Extremely well. The house was a rental and the previous tenants had a Golden Retriever dog (long hair). The ducts were clogged with dog hair. The crew arrived on time and went right to work vacuuming every duct and the HVAC unit."

"I was really delighted with the amazing quality of the installation work. The work included breaking through concrete to re route the duct work so that the furnace could be installed in the garage instead of the crawl space. Their work was phenomenal. Most of the other HVAC companies would not tackle this job because it was so extensive, requiring this work with the concrete as well as doing a roof penetration to exhaust the new furnace. the workers were extremely professional and clean. These are the folks to call if you have a complicated retrofit furnace and AC need."

"I recently had a mini split HVAC system installed, and I am extremely satisfied with both the product and the installation process. Brandon and his team demonstrated a high level of skill in both the mechanical and electrical aspects of the job. They also took the time to show me how to operate the system as well. Overall, I highly recommend both the mini split HVAC system and Hood to Coast HVAC.. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to customer satisfaction was impeccable. Very honest and reasonable, I highly recommend !! 5/5 STARS"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

When your HVAC technician mentions recharging your home AC unit, they’re referring to the process of topping off the unit with refrigerant, so the levels are properly maintained and pressurized. Normally, a properly functioning AC unit doesn’t need additional refrigerant, but AC units can develop leaks or other problems that decrease the amount of refrigerant needed.

A new HVAC system can increase your home's value by about 5% to 7%, which can translate to an added value of $2,500 to $3,000. The return on investment (ROI) can be around 30%, especially if you upgrade the entire system, including ductwork and insulation. Adding modern features like a smart thermostat can further increase your home’s value by making the heating and cooling systems more efficient and convenient. However, since a new unit can cost $10,000 or more to install, it's important to weigh the upfront cost against the potential increase in home value. For a specific assessment, it's best to consult a local AC installer.

An air conditioner’s watt usage depends on multiple factors, including the type of AC unit, its size, and how often you use it. With that said, most central air conditioners consume between 3,000 and 3,500 watts. Meanwhile, window AC units use 900 to 1,400 watts, and portable air conditioners consume 2,900 to 4,100 watts.

It is normal for the attic to be hotter than the rest of the house in the summer, but only by about 10 or 20 degrees. Attics that aren’t properly insulated or ventilated can reach temperatures of 130 degrees or more which can cause damage to the home’s structure, including the roof, wood framing, and HVAC system.

On average, an AC unit lasts between 10 and 20 years. However, the specific lifespan depends on the type of unit, how often it's used, the local climate, and the quality of maintenance. Central AC units typically last 12 to 17 years, while window units have a shorter lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Portable AC units last about 5 to 10 years, and ductless mini-split systems can last up to 20 years. To extend the life of your AC unit, it's important to perform regular maintenance, such as replacing filters, cleaning coils, and scheduling annual professional tune-ups.
