"Nolan and Nate did a difficult job. They replaced my 1989 furnace with new and installed a ac/heat pump. They needed to mate the new slightly larger unit to existing duct work. You can't tell it was modified. The new outdoor unit is also first class. I would not hesitate to recommend them for any job. They are knowledgeable and.work their ask off."

"Their service was good.  They were dependable. They came on time.  The guy worked h****** the duct.  There was a problem and he had to go under the house, into the crawl space, because there was a bend in the duct.  It was good and friendly service."

"We had several companies do estimates for us but really liked Mike from Central Fuel. He had the best price and he has a really good reputation with the customers we talked to in our area. The installers he sent up were friendly and very knowledable. They did an excellent job removing the old system and installing the new one. They also very efficient at cleaning up before they left. We opted to keep the old system and dispose of it ourselves but they offered to haul it off as part of their services. Before they left they explained how to program the new thermostat and gave advice about the filters and operation of the equipment. We've only had the equipment a short time but I'm very impressed with how quiet the new system is!"

"Excellent service, very fast response to my request for service, picked up laptop, diagnosed issues. Initially thought it was an OS update issue but the hard drive had failed along with other components (including 'CPU). Because other components were involved, a new solid state hard drive was put into a laptop with a working processor - same type CPU as in the failed unit. The laptop was repaired and returned in less than a week. This company picked up and dropped off the laptop (driving from Huntsville, AL (about 60-70 minutes)-- great service in this covid environment. I would recommend this company to my family./friends and will use again."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Ideally, an AC system should never need more Freon (a popular refrigerant) because it circulates in a closed loop. However, refrigerant leaks are not uncommon and may occur gradually over 5 to 15 years. If your system has a leak, it will need to be topped up in a process known as an AC recharge. Signs of a refrigerant leak include weakened AC performance, increased humidity in your home, higher utility bills, and a hissing sound from the unit. The cost of an AC recharge will depend on the size and type of your AC unit, as well as the type of refrigerant it uses.

To keep your air conditioner in good working condition, you should have it serviced by a professional at least once per year, ideally in the spring before the cooling season begins. If your AC unit is 10 years or older, consider servicing it twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall) to catch potential problems early and help it reach its full lifespan. During a service visit, a technician will inspect, clean, and replace parts as needed. Regular maintenance helps avoid costly repairs. As a DIY task, you can also clean the evaporator coils annually.

Yes, you should turn off your AC if it’s leaking. Turning off the system prevents more condensation from leaking and reduces strain on the unit if a damaged internal component or lack of refrigerant is the cause. While this may temporarily stop the leak, water can continue to drip from a thawing coil even after the system is off. As soon as you notice a leak, turn off the unit and investigate the source or call a professional for an inspection.

It’s critical to use the right size AC for your space and not go too small or too big. If you purchase an undersized unit, it won’t properly cool your house, and it has to work harder to reach the optimal temperature. This will eventually wear your unit out. An oversized unit can spell trouble because it will turn off and on more frequently, which also wears out your AC unit. An oversized unit also causes humidity in the home.

Many HVAC manufacturers provide warranties that encompass the cost of a new compressor, with durations ranging from 5 to 10 years, depending on the brand. These warranties cover critical components such as the compressor, condenser, connecting tubing, evaporator, and refrigerant charge. Moreover, they often include the necessary labor for replacement or repairs. Keep in mind that premium-brand compressors may offer lifetime warranty options. It's essential to note that these warranties rarely cover labor costs.
