"PDX Custom Woodwork ruined our house and wasted our time and money. We spent $62k for them to spend 6 months demoing and painting. We didn't hear from Lina for at least 3 months of this, only the occasional text from Manuel. Even at their best, they rarely communicated with us and it was like pulling teeth to find out what amounts of materials WE had to order, including our own carpet/padding and tile cement, which is not standard. They also never visited the site or had a project manager overseeing the work being done. We had to beg them to come to the property and that still only produced a monthly visit, at best. Their workers came mainly on weekends so it's clear they were prioritizing many newer projects over ours. Ultimately, they barely completed $20k in work- of which, none of those projects were totally finished- and have done about THREE TIMES that amount in DAMAGES to our property, bringing the total to around $100-120k. They gave us half our kitchen cabinet doors three months ago then kept telling us the rest were on the way. Though all of the built-ins we hired them to redo were demolished, they never fabricated the new ones. We paid for all our flooring materials ourselves, which is not an industry standard, and they had the audacity to ruin them FOUR times. We shouldn't have given them the benefit of the doubt when they said they'd fix it. The patterned carpet was cut at an angle on every single piece and they ripped up carpet in places they shouldnt have, leaving us to buy and replace even more of it. Their "painters" got paint on multiple stained wood doors (including the front door and sidelights) that we were keeping, as well as every kitchen appliance including inside our garbage disposal, and in ALL of our brand new outlets and on the light switches. They also ripped a knob off of our oven range, dented all the doors on our new fridge, covered our kitchen chandelier and living room ceiling fan with paint and damaged our brand new fireplace that they were supposed to wrap in stone for us. They washed their brushes in our bathroom sink and left paint in rooms not being renovated. They made changes to another contractor’s city-permitted work between inspections, and without telling us even when we were on site. We had to correct them on measurements multiple times because they couldn't do it accurately themselves. This was maybe 1/4th of the work we wanted to bid from them. We wanted to be repeat customers, do bigger renovations, and go the long haul, but Lina and Manuel made it impossible. Our home has been unusable for half a year with nothing to show for it. Most of the work, including the over-sprayed paint job, will need to be redone, because it's spotty, has rough texture and the ceiling got the wall/cabinet paint on it in multiple areas. They didn't even seal our tile or countertops, which were the only things we thought they had completed, but didn't. Instead, we have to now file a complaint and hire new contractors, that know what they are doing this time, to finish the job."

"Started out well. Job started earlier than originally planned which was fine. Paid a third down to start job with understanding that rest would be paid in full upon completion. Everything was going fine until near the end of the job. After shower fixtures were installed I noticed they were the wrong finish from what we agreed on for the estimate. Took a week for Joel to reorder & replace. When the frameless glass shower panel was going in, the installer realized it was the wrong size, and had to be redone. The grout on the stone shower floor was very sloppily applied. Bits of dried grit are stuck on the stones. Before job was finished Joel was asking for full payment as he was running tight of money. I insisted on paying him in full only when job was complete. He wasn't very happy. Overall, the tile shower walls & bathroom floor tile look great. I only wish there had been more attention paid to the other details."

Our priorities (yours may vary): - Keep original footprint and walls intact - Increase storage, but better use of space (lose the peninsula and soffits) - Increase lighting: overhead and under-cab - Functional usability of cabinetry - Coffee bar - Baking station Execution on Delivery and Project Management: - Scope: We reached an initial agreement and everything that we decided to add was appropriately and promptly covered with a change order. - Schedule: Coordination of subcontractors executed well, work was done in sequence without dependency-related problems causing delays or rework. - Budget: The budget grew as we added and communicated prioritized items, but always under control and confirmed. - Communication and Coordination, Adapting to Changes: We all know that "little hiccups" happen, and you never know what you're getting into until the walls are opened up, but the frequent and open, honest dialogue enabled us to discuss what was learned, define options, and make the choice with which we were most comfortable. - Skills and Materials: Top quality, see for yourself in the photos. Final review together to confirm successful completion and satisfaction. Summary: Being without your kitchen for several months is notoriously stressful. The team at Alta Casa, their subcontractors, and external referrals were all extremely professional and repeatedly went above and beyond to deliver us an amazing result. I would choose them again in a heartbeat, offering my highest recommendation. If I could give them 6 stars, I would. They were that good.
