"I wanted to receive quotes for a siding project from several companies and debella debt out Blake & Brady for the initial quote. They were very friendly and professional and unlike other companies respected the fact I wanted to do this in February. They were very supportive and didn't try to pressure a same day sale. The actually spent over 5 hours at my home going over all the details and answering my questions. The found the right serv6fir me within my budget so I signed up now for them to start in February. "I hired Master Contractor to install my roof on my home. He was knowledgeable of the work and the codes and requirements. His team was pleasant and friendly. They did an excellent job on my roof. It was quality work. The owner provided superb customer service. They did an excellent job protecting my home and my neighbors and the clean up was top notch. The money spent was well worth it. You won’t need to repaint or restain this type of siding every several years like you would with wood, so ongoing costs and upkeep will be minimal. Although it’s relatively low maintenance, you should still wash your vinyl log siding twice per year. Doing so will increase its longevity, remove any mold, and retain your home’s curb appeal.

Wood clapboard siding needs frequent sealing to keep it in top condition—likely every two to three years. A sealant helps protect it from both moisture and sunlight damage. Your weather and climate will affect how often you need to seal the siding, but the pros recommend sealing it every couple of years. More durable woods in milder climates may not need to be sealed quite as often.

You can put new siding over clapboards, but it’s not recommended. Some sidings, like vinyl siding, can go over clapboards with sheathing like a foam layer in between. However, it’s best to remove clapboard siding if you plan on replacing it with new siding. Burying wood clapboards underneath new siding can create risks of rot and mold, or hidden insect damage. It can also create warping issues over time. Removing clapboards allows you to properly install a new sheathing, as well as clean up the exterior wall and look for any signs of damage.

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

Wood siding requires that air can circulate behind it and that water can drain away if necessary. Your home needs a water-restrictive barrier underneath furring strips to achieve the air and water gap.
