"We love our cabinets! They look fantastic while remaining affordable. The friendly staff at AWD helped us from start to finish. They are very knowledgeable and gave us advice and tips when needed. They were receptive and patient with our ever-changing needs. Once we finalized our purchase, we received our cabinets within two weeks! The cabinets are very sturdy and the color is beautiful. The hinges and hardware are high quality. We are extremely pleased with AWD and would recommend them to any friends or family looking for good cabinets at a fair price."

"Nick repaired, painted, and replaced the hinges on our kitchen cabinets. Not only are they old, I have to admit I didn't clean them first. I basically gave him a mess to fix; a broken sink base, painted hinges, and layer upon layer of old paint. Nick was polite, considerate, punctual, and capable. He didn't cut corners. He showed up on time every time. He came prepared, and never had to go buy materials (or disappear for hours). Our old cabinets look fantastic again! I would highly recommend him for woodworking of any kind. I fully intend to invite him back for future projects. Many thanks, Nick!"

Pre Made Cabinets questions, answered by experts

While most kitchen island installations do not require a permit, some situations do. Any major kitchen renovation will require one, and depending on your municipality, you might also need one if you install new plumbing or electrical work.

Your kitchen island installation pro will be able to determine if you need a permit for your job, which can run you between $460 and $2,900, depending on the permits required.

You aren’t obligated to tip cabinet contractors, but you can choose to do so if they went above and beyond and you want to show your gratitude. This is usually something in the ballpark of 10% to 15% of your total cost. As an alternative, you can provide snacks and drinks for workers and/or offer to serve as a reference for prospective customers.

Make sure your shelves are no more than 12 inches deep. Any deeper and it will become hard to access items towards the back of the shelf. Yet, for larger walk-in pantries, homeowners may prefer 15- to 18-inch shelving to make room for larger appliances and cookware.

While having an assistant to help ensure safety and to lend a hand is desirable, if someone isn't around to assist, you can install kitchen cabinets on your own. Normal kitchen cabinet installation starts with the upper wall cabinets. If you're working on your own, consider installing the bases first and building a temporary support structure on top of them to help you install the uppers.

It depends on your carpentry skills and the type of cabinets you purchase. If you have a high level of skill, then it’s most likely going to cost less for you to build your own garage cabinets. It will take longer than purchasing pre-built cabinetry, but it will decrease your overall labor cost.
